In the Nama tradition, wind has a lot to do with well-being. All living beings have their own wind, a gift of life from God. There is also another type of wind, a wind of sickness that may enter a person’s body. This wind afflicts our organs and makes them move. Massaging can relocate organs to their proper positions. It also helps us to release excess wind and stiffness from tendons.
Should you hear your Nama masseuse belch loudly while massaging, this is not an insult but !g*i, an act that is used to release the sickness wind from the patient.
