Good Night Mentor,

I speak not only as an actor, but as a student, a mentee, and someone who was deeply privileged to have walked a part of his journey under the guidance of a true legend.

Olú Jacobs was more than a great actor to me. He was my mentor, my teacher, and one of the people whose presence helped shape my understanding of the craft I love so dearly.

In the world of African cinema, there are actors, and then there are legends whose names become part of history. Olú Jacobs belongs to that rare generation. His voice, his presence, his discipline, his elegance, and his extraordinary ability to interpret a character left an unforgettable mark on Nigerian theatre and film.

For me, watching and learning from him was a privilege I will never take for granted.

He taught me, directly and indirectly, that acting is not simply about standing in front of a camera and saying lines. Acting is about understanding the soul of a character. It is about discipline, patience, emotion, timing, observation and truth.

As an actor myself, I have spent decades interpreting scripts and living through different characters. Along that journey, mentors like Olú Jacobs reminded me that the actor's greatest responsibility is to respect the story and give every character a life that the audience can believe.

There are certain people who enter your life and leave footprints that time cannot erase. Olú Jacobs was one of those people in my life.

I remember him with enormous respect and gratitude. I remember the wisdom that came with his experience. I remember the dignity with which he carried himself. I remember a man who demonstrated that greatness does not need to shout.

His contribution to the Nigerian film industry will continue to live through the countless actors, filmmakers and audiences who were inspired by his work.

To me, he was not simply Olú Jacobs, the legendary actor.

He was my mentor.

He was one of those remarkable figures who helped me appreciate the depth of the profession I chose. His legacy is a reminder that when an actor truly understands the craft, his work can outlive his physical presence.

Today, I honour you, my mentor.

I honour the years you dedicated to the arts.
I honour the characters you brought to life.
I honour the lessons you left behind.
I honour the generation you inspired.
And I honour the legacy that will continue to speak long after you have left this world.

The camera may stop rolling, but great performances never truly disappear. They remain in the memories of the people who watched them, learned from them and were moved by them.

Your physical presence may be gone, but your influence remains.
