“What Is My Crime?” — Hairy Lady Allegedly Rejected By Landlords In Port Harcourt Over Her Beard

A Nigerian woman identified as Uche HairyAngel has shared how she was allegedly rejected by several landlords and caretakers in Port Harcourt because of her beard.

In a Facebook post, Uche said one caretaker invited her from Owerri to inspect an apartment but later allegedly told her agent she refused to rent the house to her because of her appearance.

She claimed another landlord made her fill forms through his lawyer before allegedly admitting he was afraid to rent his house to her, while another reportedly increased the rent and demanded two years’ payment after seeing her, only to later rent the same apartment to someone else at the normal price and one-year agreement.

The young woman said the repeated rejection has caused her emotional stress, isolation, and depression.

“What is my crime?” she asked emotionally, while vowing that she would one day become a landlady in Port Harcourt herself.

She hasn’t done what someone hasn’t done before

At the time, it probably felt safe because no road expansion, no immediate threat

The road has come to claim its space💯

Now the owner is left with two choices👇🏼
1) Evacuate (normally, there’s no way this house will stay in that position with the expansion of this road)

2) Or stay at their own risk as always

This is the reality many people ignore when building, urban development is not static

What looks like a smart shortcut today can become a costly mistake tomorrow and unfortunately, in many cases there’s never any kind of compensation ✍🏽

NB: I have said it here severely, respect building norms and consult the master plan before construction or one day, development will catch up with you and while others will be happy with development, you will be devastated ✍🏽
