1. With the exception of diamonds, rubies are the hardest natural gemstone.

2. The colour of a ruby is actually more important than anything else, including cut. The deeper and darker the colour, even to the point of almost being purplish, the better. The lighter the colour, the better the chances are that you don’t actually have a ruby, but something else.

3. Not only are rubies the traditional birthstone for July babies, but they are also used for 15th and 40th anniversaries.

4. All rubies have flaws. This is part of what makes them unique. They are also all treated in order to preserve their hardness. If you are the kind of person who keeps going despite your flaws, then the ruby might just be your spirit stone!

5. Rubies are considered one of the precious stones. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires are the others. Everything else is “semi-precious.”

Onyx is a banded variety of the oxide mineral chalcedony. Agate and onyx are both varieties of layered chalcedony that differ only in the form of the bands: agate has curved bands and onyx has parallel bands. In its solid black form, Onyx is the most traditional black gemstone.

Emeralds are the most famous variety of Beryl, a mineral stone. The emerald stone gets its green colour from traces of the element chromium and, on occasions, traces of vanadium.

Emeralds are one of the four precious globally recognized stones. The other three are rubies, diamonds, and sapphires.
