What's the difference between local rice and foreign rice?

The lower fibre content of foreign is attributed to high levels of processing during production.

Local rice often has higher fibre content, which can aid in digestion and provide a sense of fullness.

Higher fibre content can be beneficial for digestive health and may help in managing blood sugar levels.

Jollof rice, a signature Nigerian dish, is a must-have at weddings, birthdays, festivals, Christmas, and New Year gatherings even on Sundays.

It symbolizes togetherness and joy, bringing people of all ethnicities together around one pot.

At some events, the saying “No party without Jollof rice” reflects how essential rice is to Nigerian social life.

A rice field, also known as a paddy field, is a piece of land specially prepared and flooded with water to grow rice.

Rice fields are common in many parts of Nigeria, especially in states like Kebbi, Ebonyi, and Benue. The water helps the rice plants grow well and protects them from weeds.

During the growing season, rice fields look like wide green carpets, and at harvest time, they turn golden, showing the beauty and importance of agriculture in feeding the nation.

The hidden field of paddy rice represents the quiet strength of nature and the unseen labor of farmers. Often tucked away in swampy valleys or behind rural villages, these green fields are the lifeline of many communities.

From a distance, they may seem ordinary, but within them lies the beauty of growth — each grain nurtured by water, sun, and human care.

The hidden paddy field reminds us that the foundation of our food and culture often begins in humble, unseen places where patience and hard work meet the earth.
