Today is
We are putting important information and tips to continuously empower people with asthma, their families and the society in general.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease affecting people of all ages. It is caused by inflammation and muscle tightening around the airways, which makes it harder to breathe.
Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. These symptoms can be mild or severe and can come and go over time.

Although asthma can be a serious condition, it can be managed with the right treatment. People with symptoms of asthma should speak to a health professional.
Asthma cannot be cured but there are several treatments available. The most common treatment is to use an inhaler, which delivers medication directly to the lungs.

Inhalers can help control the disease and enable people with asthma to enjoy a normal, active life.

There are two main types of inhaler:

-> bronchodilators (such as salbutamol), that open the air passages and relieve symptoms; and
-> steroids (such as beclometasone) that reduce inflammation in the air passages, which improves asthma symptoms and reduces the risk of severe asthma attacks and death.

People with asthma may need to use their inhaler every day. Their treatment will depend on the frequency of symptoms and the types of inhalers available.

As part of activities to making the 2023 World Malaria day, Pan-African Health Initiative Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation engaged on a one-day sensitization outreach within Benin city, informing the masses on the dangers of malaria.

The Executive Director Mr. Abraham Osagiede in his speech gave an overview of the program stating that World Malaria Day is observed world-wide on April 25 every year with the aims to raising awareness of the global effort to control, prevent and eventually eradicate malaria.

He added that Malaria is a life-threatening disease spread to humans by the Anopheles mosquitoes which is mostly found in tropical countries. It is preventable and curable.
Symptoms can be mild or life-threatening. Mild symptoms are fever, chills and headache. Severe symptoms include fatigue, confusion, seizures, and difficulty breathing.
Infants, children under 5 years, pregnant women, travellers and people with HIV or AIDS are at higher risk of severe infection.
Malaria is preventable and can be treated.

Malaria mostly spreads to people through the bites of some infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. During blood transfusion and use of contaminated needles may also transmit malaria parasite. The first symptoms may be mild, similar to many febrile illnesses, and difficulty to recognize as malaria. If left untreated, the Plasmodium falciparum malaria can progress to severe illness and death within 24 hours.
