👀Complications Readiness

🤰✨ Breech Baby ✨🤰

🔹 What’s Breech?
Baby’s bottom, feet or knees are lined up to come out first instead of the head (cephalic presentation)

🔹 3 Types to Know:
1️⃣ Frank Breech: Buttocks first, legs up by the head (most common)
2️⃣ Complete Breech: Buttocks first, knees bent (feet tucked)
3️⃣ Footling Breech: One or both feet (or a knee) present first

🔹 Birth Options:
• Frank/Complete: Can be deliver va**nally by skilled Midwife or Obstetrician
• Footling: Almost always a planned C‑section for safety

🔹 When It Shows Up:
Usually spotted around 36 weeks via ultrasound or physical examination. But can also be diagnosed during labour

🔹 Be Ready!
✔️ Talk to your Obstetrician early
✔️ Plan for possible C‑section & extra neonatal care
✔️ Budget for unexpected costs
✔️ Lean on your support crew!

Let’s Talk About It: Placental Abruption

Hey moms-to-be (and support teams)! Last time, we talked about being ready for any pregnancy complications. Today, we’re diving into a big one: Placental Abruption.

🌞What is it?
Placental abruption happens when the placenta — your baby’s lifeline — separates from the wall of the uterus before delivery.
The placenta does a LOT (think of the acronym SERPENT):

Storage

Excretion

Respiration

Protection

Endocrine (hormones!)

Nutrition

Transportation

🌞If it detaches early, the baby loses these supports — like cutting off their oxygen supply. It’s serious and can cause brain damage, developmental issues like epilepsy, cerebral palsy, or even worse.

🌞What can increase the risk?

Trauma (falls, accidents)

Short umbilical cord

Drug use (especially co***ne)

Sudden loss of uterine pressure (like after water breaks too fast)

🌞Signs to Watch For:

Sharp, sudden belly pain

Vaginal bleeding (but sometimes bleeding is hidden!)

Back pain

A hard, tender stomach

🌞What to Do: Placental abruption is an emergency. Immediate delivery — either natural or C-section — is usually needed to save both mom and baby.

Bottom Line:
Know the signs. Trust your instincts. Seek help FAST if something feels wrong.
Safe deliveries to all our strong moms out there!
