🌞 FASTING & KIDNEY HEALTH IN HOT WEATHER
Fasting during hot weather can put extra stress on the kidneys because the body loses a lot of water through sweat and long hours without drinking.
⚠️ Why It Can Be Risky
Dehydration reduces urine and causes waste buildup in the blood.
It may lead to acute kidney injury (AKI).
It increases the risk of kidney stones.
Severe dehydration can worsen kidney function over time.
🚫 Who Should Avoid Fasting?
People with advanced kidney disease (Stage 4–5)
Patients on dialysis
Anyone with serious chronic illness (consult your doctor first)
✅ Safety Tips for Those Fasting
💧 Drink plenty of water between Iftar and Suhoor
🧂 Avoid too much salt and sugar
🌡 Stay indoors or in shade during peak heat (12–3 PM)
👀 Watch for signs of dehydration: dark urine, dizziness, dry mouth
🩺 People with Stage 1–3 kidney disease should monitor their health closely
📢 Important Reminder
Healthy people may fast safely, but anyone with kidney problems should speak to a healthcare professional before fasting.
Stay safe. Protect your kidneys. 💙

INSIGHT INTO THE CONSEQUENCES OF JOB STRESS AMONG HEALTH WORKERS:- CLINICAL PRESENTATION.
The significant consequences of Job stress among health care workers have been outlined with preventive measures proffered for the benefit of those affected.
This is contained In a paper titled "Job Stress and it's Health Effects" presented by Dr. Morgan Bege Ilya of the Family Medicine Department during the Hospital Clinical Presentation of Wednesday,13th August, 2025 at the New Conference Hall.
Job Stress, according to Dr. Morgan is defined by WHO as "the response people may have when presented with work demands and pressures not matched to their knowledge and abilities" thereby resulting in mental and physical issues", a trend he noted constitutes 61.97% among Nigerian health care workers.
He said that the level of Stress in the health care sector has recently garnered a lot of attention due to the effects on both Staff and patients hence the need to provide insights into the impacts, early signs and symptoms of the condition to proffer management strategies.
The symptoms, he explained are physical, mental, emotional and behavioral with symptoms at the physical level to include body aches, BP , fatigue, dizziness insomnia, obesity, reproductive and immune problems.
In the emotional level, he said job stressed victims depict high level of irritability, emotional instability leading to mood swings, loneliness, helplessness and being overwhelmed while the third consequences lead to reduced productivity, absenteeism, cognitive impairment and burnout resulting in poor decision making with memory issues and anxiety.
Dr. Morgan added that at the last stage, burnout takes course into a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged unresolved stress overwork and lack of balance.
He suggested that even though Stress cannot be avoided, it can be managed through early awareness and certain management strategies, develop skills to cope with the situation.
Patient With Transplanted Pig Kidney Leaves Hospital for Home
By Roni Caryn Rabin
Richard Slayman, 62, is the first patient to receive a kidney from a genetically modified pig. Two weeks after the procedure, he was well enough to be discharged, doctors say.
The first patient to receive a kidney transplanted from a genetically modified pig has fared so well that he was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, just two weeks after the groundbreaking surgery.
The transplant and its encouraging outcome represent a remarkable moment in medicine, scientists say, possibly heralding an era of cross-species organ transplantation.
Two previous organ transplants from genetically modified pigs failed. Both patients received hearts, and both died a few weeks later. In one patient, there were signs that the immune system had rejected the organ, a constant risk.
But the kidney transplanted into Richard Slayman, 62, is producing urine, removing waste products from the blood, balancing the body’s fluids and carrying out other key functions, according to his doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“This moment — leaving the hospital today with one of the cleanest bills of health I’ve had in a long time — is one I wished would come for many years,” he said in a statement issued by the hospital. “Now it’s a reality.”
He said he had received “exceptional care” and thanked his physicians and nurses, as well as the well-wishers who reached out to him, including kidney patients who were waiting for an organ.
