STARRY SCARS

They have whispered it with their tiny piercing voices
And they have sung it to my ears.
“Hide yourself from the face of the world,
For no one wants to see your scars.
Remain in your shell and shield your blemish,
For no one needs to know of your ugliness.”

But what can I say?
They are shallow in their thinking
And myopic in sight.

I will not be intimidated to hide my scars
For as failure colors success
And pain periodically paints pleasure,
So do my scars color my beauty.
As the sky does not cloak its stars,
I shall not shy away from shining my scars.

Why fret about a past that will last?
Why conceal what will not be concealed?
Why deny what has now become a part of me?

Hey, look outside.
What do you see?
It is me taking my place in the world,
Proudly showing forth my starry scars.
Nothing will I change about me
Cos this is the best of me.

You bury your head in shame
And rub yourself with ash,
Whimpering because of the scar on your heart.

We all bear our scars
And some could be internal,
Beyond what the eyes can see;
Running deep into the soul.
But how will you wear yours?
With pride or with regret?
