“Come on darling, don't be like that. It's not your fault. It's God that gives children" Papa Abram consoled the crying Sarai who was complaining of her barrenness.
"Abram, I want you to marry handmaiden, Hagai”
“What???" Father Abram exclaimed, mouth wide open not expecting what he was hearing. Well that was sudden 🤔
“I thought about it, if you marry her and she gets pregnant and bring forth a child it could help me with my state of barrenness maybe I will give birth after all a Yoruba adage says “ori omo lo n pomo waye(it's the head of a child that calls another to this world)”.This is the conclusion she reached after much thought.
"No, I will not do that kind of thing. What sort of logic is that??” He refused resolutely.
But after much tears, pleading, silent treatment and all for days, Papa Abram bent to her will. He married Hagai but it was in secrecy, well, it happened once and boom 💥 Hagai got pregnant. Who would have thought Hagai will turn to something else, she became proud, started despising her master. She seemed to have forgotten that it was Sarai that made her who she is. “After all, we share the same husband" she thought.
Then one day 👇
“How could you do this to me Abram, how could you??" Sarai said feeling dejected. There was no one to vent her anger on so she took it out on Abram.
“You got her pregnant now see, she would not even listen to me and looks down on me. If you had not married her and got her pregnant all this wouldn't have happened. It's all your fault" Sarai ranted on and on. It was as if she had been piling up her frustration and she could no longer hold it in.
Papa Abram was frustrated.
"You could have declined and stood your ground that you do not want to. It's all your fault. My God will judge you” Sarai said crying.
Papa Abram was confused," was she not the one that brought her to me?? How's it my fault now” he thought. He can feel a headache coming already.
