At the last Lagos climate Change summit, I mentioned the importance of adding incentives if we really want to achieve a pollutant free state and join the rest of the world in taking action towards climate change. The litter lotto is happening in the UK, a country where people are 90% orderly. Majority of the people here know that they shouldn't litter the roads with dirt or bring out their heads and hands while driving to dispose dirt or wait for heavy rainfall to empty their waste bin. Despite their orderliness, the government won't relent until they achieve that net zero world. Nigeria, some of our states are really affected by the climate crisis. Let's channel funds to the right place and we'll see results. Lagos can do this. It's not like everyone that litters a bin gets money but it's a lotto. Whoever wins, wins.
Actually, it's still a win win; the government gets close to achieving their goals while the citizens enjoy 100% clean environment, inhale clean air and (some) make extra cool cash.
Such a great privilege to stand before the deputy governor of Lagos state
and the first lady of Lagos state to pitch my ideas towards taking climate actions. This is a privilege I can't overlook.
