Difference Between a Fix Spray and a Setting Spray.

As a makeup artist, I am frequently asked what makeup sprays are, why we use them, and when we should use them.

So, in today's blog post, I'll debunk every myth we have regarding makeup sprays and how to utilize them.

There are different types of makeup sprays but I will be focusing on the fix spray and setting spray.

Fix Spray
As the name implies a fix spray is a “binding spray”. It’s designed to settle and bind to the skin powdery products that may have been used in the makeup process.

While applying makeup we use a lot of powdery products, which can give us an ashy, chalky look, unfortunately this is not the result we want to achieve during a makeup process but a dewy look, in layman's terms, we want a skin-like finish to our makeup look, hence why we use a fix spray.

This fix spray helps to bind powder together and melt it all together so that it resembles our skin.

Setting Spray
A setting spray, on the other hand, seals in your makeup, making it last longer and virtually budge proof.

Setting sprays are great for special occasions like weddings, convocations, birthday parties, summer months and vacations, generally it is used when you desire your makeup to stay put all day long, until you choose to take it off.

The difference between the two is a fix spray binds up all powdery products together and gives a skin like finish to your makeup look while a setting spray seals in your makeup and makes your makeup last longer.

It is important to note that a setting spray can serve both the functions of a fix spray and a setting spray but a fix spry cannot because it cannot lock your makeup in place and prevent it from budging out.

I believe with these information at your fingertips you can confidently walk into your favourite beauty supply store and purchase either a fix spray or a setting spray without mistaken their functions.

Cheers to Elegance!!!

What is a Skin Primer?
Our skin is not like a plain canvas, It has a natural texture and it is prone to visible problems such as pigmentation, acne, and blemishes.

Enlarged pores, bumps, and acne scars can further aggravate the texture of your skin. When you apply makeup directly over textured skin, the flaws become more noticeable.
That is where primer comes in. Primer helps you save your face. It literally does!

How Does a Primer Work?
Primer works as a barrier between your skin and makeup. It forms a thin, smooth layer to give you that faux flawless skin.

A primer has four main benefits:

Blurs lines and wrinkles
Fills in scars
Shrinks enlarged pores
Controls sebum

Results are temporary but immediate. Your skin instantly appears smoother, younger, and healthier with no visible scars or open pores. Your make up sets better and stays longer with a primer. More importantly, a primer protects your skin from direct exposure to the chemicals found in cosmetic products.

However, the product isn’t magic in itself. The way you use it matters a lot. If you want a primer to do its job right, you need to understand the critical dos and don’ts.

Let’s start with the Dos
1)Prep your skin before priming it. Make sure your skin is properly cleaned and moisturized before you apply your primer. Keep in mind that your moisturizer goes under the primer including anything else that needs to be absorbed by the skin.

keep in mind that most primers are silicon-based as it is one of the most amazing smoothening ingredients. It doesn’t get absorbed in the skin, neither is it broken down by sebum. However, you can choose a water-based primer as well.

2)Take a small amount and blend it all over the face. Dime-to-nickel-size amount is perfect for most people. People with dry skin should apply more on areas prone to creasing.

3)People with oily skin should use a smaller amount.
Use fingers and light tapping motion to blend it in. Fingers are the best application tool as the warmth of your skin can make makeup blend easily and set to a flawless finish. You can also use a foundation brush to fill in deeper set lines.

4)Give your primer a few good minutes to set in before you start with the foundation or other cosmetic products.

Moving on to the Don’ts

1)Do not mix formulas. Different brands use different ingredients, and some do not gel well with others. If you are mixing two primers, the chances are they will break each other out. Similarly, you cannot mix different formulas of primers and foundation. If you have a water-based foundation, you will need a water-based primer to get the best results.

2)Don’t go for a generic product when you have a specific skin issue. There are all kinds of primers targeting all kind of skin issues – illuminating ones for dull skin, pore minimizing ones for open pores, color correcting primers, oil control primers as well as mattifying ones.

3)Don’t apply too much primer. Since most primers are silicon-based, you can experience piling. Also, too much primer is counterproductive as it can make your makeup slip off your face.

4)Do not apply on unclean skin. A primer can trap the dirt inside along with sebum, resulting in breakouts and other skin issues.

Now you know what a primer is and how useful it is to achieving a flawless makeup look, you can confidently walk into your beauty supply store and purchase one for yourself.

Cheers to elegance!

How to Find your Perfect Red Lipstick Shade

"There is a shade of red for every woman."--AUDREY HEPBURN

These are the wise words of the great Audrey Hepburn in the 20th century.

We know how well a red lipstick complement our looks, it speaks of elegance and prowess, it's therefore important to know what shade of red suits you well as a lady....

Red lipstick comes in a variety of hues—from the deepest crimsons to the brightest cherries—that are bound to be flattering on every woman’s skin tone.

The key to finding the best red lipstick shade actually has nothing to do with the lips at all.

The main factor in picking the right red lipstick is finding a shade that complements your skin tone and its undertones.

HOW TO FIND YOUR SKIN TONES.
For those with light to medium skin, you can look at your veins on your wrists: do they look blue/purple or green?

Cooler skin tones will see blue or purple veins, while warmer skin tones will see green veins.

There’s also the question of what jewelry looks better on you: silver or gold?

Silver looks better on cool skin tones, and gold on warm skin tones.

Those with neutral skin have both undertones present, so they may have a mixture of answers that don’t necessarily fall on one side or the other.

Once you know your undertone, you can start shopping for the red lipstick that bests suits your skin.

For Cool Tones:
For cooler skin tones, blue-based red shades are the way to go. One easy trick to tell if your red lipstick is cool-toned is by applying a light layer first. If it looks pinkish, then it's most likely a cool color.

For Warm Tones:
For warm skin tones, peachy based reds or reds that have orange hues suits a warm skin tone.

For Neutral Tones:
Neutral-toned individuals get the best of both worlds—from dark to light, they can wear blue-based or peach-toned reds. This means that a classic red offers a happy medium that complements neutral tones.

I hope with all these information at your finger tips you can confidently walk into the beauty store to purchase your red lipstick that bests suits your skin.

Cheers to elegance!!!
