*Enugu residents urge Mbah to remove illegal structures, as work begins at int'l conference centre*
Residents across Enugu state have called on the state government to give the people a world class centre at the International Conference Centre (ICC) urging the removal of all illegal structures in the area as the land housing the ICC had been encroached upon by land grabbers, even as they commended the governor for commencing work on the site.
Governor Peter Mbah had during the electioneering period and the economic summit held in 2023, vowed to complete all abandoned projects and resuscitate dormant assets in the state to boost revenue.
Prof. Orji Aninwede who came to shop at the Enugu SPA Mall told our correspondent that the governor had started his administration on a good note, adding that the ICC would serve both as a revenue generating project as well as a tourist centre.
He said he had written to the previous administrations to complete the legacy project that would put the state on the map of states that are keen for investment.
“This is what I have been craving for over the past years. These edifices are wasting instead of generating revenue for the state. I had queried if land grabbers also wanted to convert the buildings because of all these illegal structures and encroachment on the site.
“It is only someone who is out of reason that would put those buildings almost inside the conference centre in the name of residence. Is that place meant to be a private residence? The government should remove all of them. Our people are lawless”, the lecturer said.
A medical practitioner, Dr. David Onyedikachi, who had patronized Root Restaurant, said although, he did not vote during the last elections as he had never bothered to register for voter’s card, said that the actions taken by Governor Mbah since the inception of his administration has won him over.
He lauded the governor for the master plan which he described as “a perfect blueprint” for the state. “Honestly, this governor has come to work for the people. It even appears to me that he is in a hurry to deliver with all these multiple projects initiated by him. I’m now a convert and I will keep

*Yuletide: Mbah assures Enugu residents, travellers of security as army flags off exercise*
_…Enugu, most peaceful state in Southeast – Nigerian Army_
Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has assured residents living across the state and those that would be travelling to Enugu from around the world for Christmas and New Year celebrations of adequate security of lives and property throughout the festive period.
This was even as the Nigerian Army, this week, while flagging off a military operation codenamed “Exercise Golden Dawn III” in the state designed to pre-empt security threats, guarantee the safety of the citizens across the state and reassure them of a hitch-free yuletide, said Enugu State remains the most peaceful state in the Southeast region as a result of the enormous support from the state government.
Governor Mbah gave this assurance at the Tactical Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Udi Local Government Area of the state while addressing guests and military personnel at the flag-off ceremony.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Chidiebere Onyia, acknowledged that the yuletide period was often characterised with high level of criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, among other security challenges, stressing that the state was ready to address the challenges and ensure that crimes are not recorded during the celebrations.
He recalled the security successes his administration had recorded over the past few months such as the cancellation of the illegal sit-at-home orders, arrests and prosecution of kidnappers, armed robbers and cultists in the state, maintaining that the government would continue to collaborate with the military and other security agencies to safeguard lives and property of the citizens.
“Permit me, therefore, to extend to you, the support and warm wishes of the Government and people of Enugu State, as you flag off this exercise. I wish to enjoin that Enugu State Government has had a long tradition of mutual understanding, cooperation and assistance that we have maintained with the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army. It is our resolve to assist the securi

*Mbah, Enugu Council Chairmen Consolidate 60/40% Projects Funding Partnership*
…Earmark 300,000 hectres Agric land banks
The Governor Peter Mbah administration and the 17 local government areas, Tuesday, consolidated the state government and local government projects funding partnership of 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.
This is even as the state is building a 300,000 hectres of agricultural land banks across the state to trigger agricultural and agro-industrialisation in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia made this known while briefing the Government House Press Corps after a meeting of the State Economic Planning Commission.
He, however, said the Commission would select from the lists of projects already submitted by the council chairmen based on their expected impacts on rural economies.
He said: “What is important to note is that the governor is interested in opening up all the rural areas to enhance and catalyse all their economic activities and potentials.
“The chairmen have already submitted projects, but those projects will have priorities in their selection. What the Economic Planning Commission Executive Chairman and his team are doing right now is to look at the projects, especially projects like road projects, educational projects, security projects, and the things that align to the state economic growth targets.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh said the funding partnership would trigger multiple capital development projects across Enugu State.
“The essence of it is that we must embark on projects that the state government will be proud of and the rural people will benefit well from”, the ALGON Chairman stated.
On his part, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Patrick Ubru, said the government was working hard at de-resking land acquisition for agriculture by building 300,000-agricultural land banks across the 17 local government areas.
“What it means is that after that is done, we will now have specific places where we do our farming and in line with our desired crops in terms of the

Navy to Establish Operational Base in Enugu, as Gov. Mbah Assures on Continued Improved Security
The Nigerian Navy is to establish an operational base in Enugu State to improve the security of lives and property by securing the state’s coastal areas.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, disclosed this during a courtesy call on the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday.
This is even as the Government of Enugu State has pledged a continued partnership with the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies for continued improvement of security and peace in the state, which it said was critical to the current administration’s blueprint of exponential economic growth.
Ogalla commended Governor Mbah for his bold actions in tackling the security challenges in the state immediately upon his inauguration, saying he was impressed with the successes recorded in the very short period he had been in office.
Continuing, he said: “The Nigerian Navy has three primary roles, which are first, the military duties, being the protection of this country's territorial integrity and sovereignty from the maritime domain. We have policing role as well as the diplomatic roles.
“We have noticed that within this role of policing duties, we have not really extended our functions to Enugu State, and we want to do that with your support.
“To this end, we plan to extend our operations to encompass and cover the broader spectrum of Enugu State, knowing that the state has a navigable river around Uzo Uwani. That river used to be a seaport during the colonial era, and it has been abandoned. We believe that if we are able to police that area, it will give assurances to investors, who will now invest in the development of that seaway for the benefit of the people of Enugu State.
“So, I want to seek your support as we make this bold initiative towards showing presence within that important seaway.
“Our operations there will be aimed at providing internal security operations both through area surveillance and patrol in such a manner that economic activities can thrive without hindrance”.

UK to Partner Enugu Govt for Mutual Economic Benefits
..As Mbah makes case for restoration of visa centre to Enugu
The governments of the United Kingdom (UK) and Enugu State will partner for the mutual economic benefits of the UK and the state, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, and the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, have stated.
This was even as Dr. Mbah has sought the technical assistance of the UK government as well as the restoration of UK visa facilitation center to Enugu to boost trade, business, and other relationships between the UK and Enugu State.
Both men made this known during a visit by the UK High Commissioner to Governor Mbah at the Government House, Enugu, on Tuesday.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Montgomery, who expressed his support for the investment and economic growth drive of the new administration in the state, recalled that the UK had partnered with Enugu State for over 20 years on issues like public health sector reforms, education, power sector reforms, among others.
“So, we are interested in continuing that partnership. I have been reading the press and the ways you have been seeking to already put your stamp on reforms and your ambitions for the state.
“I am here to listen, learn, and understand more about your priority and that of your new government to explore areas of further collaboration.
“I understand that very important reforms are currently being made in Nigeria, trying to put the economy back on track and on a higher growth path.
“We really hope that the South East and Enugu State will see more opportunities coming from the economy in the coming years.
“There might be some short-term pressures and volatility to manage, but we can see the prospects for a higher growth path for Nigeria.
“The UK is very interested in exploring partnerships on trade and investment and I have come to Enugu to understand your agenda and to explore those areas of potential partnership going forward”, he stated.
Speaking, Governor Mbah, who went down the memory lane on what he described as Enugu’s consequential roles and place in the history of Nigeria, said the state was eager to take ba
