They smile, not because the wound is gone, but because they are tired of showing it.
They trust less, question more, and carry conversations with caution.
Not because they became cold, but because they learned that the people who promised forever can become strangers overnight.
A calm person after betrayal has mastered the art of swallowing reactions.
They fight battles nobody hears.
They replay memories, search for answers they may never get, and grieve versions of people who no longer exist.
People mistake their composure for strength.
What they don't see is the heartbreak behind every controlled response.
The tears that were cried in private.
The nights spent staring at the ceiling.
The disappointment that changed the way they love.
Their calmness is expensive.
It cost them trust.
It cost them innocence.
It cost them the ability to believe every word they hear.
And yet they remain calm.
Not because it doesn't hurt.
Not because they have healed completely.
But because they have learned that some pains cannot be screamed away.
So they carry the weight quietly,
while their heart learns how to survive what it never deserved to experience.
