The day of atonement is a memorial given to the house of isreal for eternity ; it’s a day we afflict our souls; as it is written in numbers 29 vs 7 - 11

The day of atonement signifies that no sinners shall enter into God's kingdom therefore we must examine our actions, intentions towards our fellow man .

Note- Anyone who refuses to afflict his or her soul shall be cut off from Israel.
It's a one day dry fasting.
