Things I Wish More People Knew About Azelaic Acid 🤍

1. You can use azelaic acid in the morning. It doesn’t make your skin more sensitive to the sun, but sunscreen is still essential—especially when treating hyperpigmentation.

2. You can use it morning and night if your skin tolerates it. Consistency is key, and results usually take several weeks to become noticeable.

3. 10% isn’t necessarily the best choice for stubborn pigmentation. Higher-strength formulations, such as 15–20%, may provide stronger results, depending on the product and your skin’s tolerance.

4. Azelaic acid may not be enough on its own. For persistent hyperpigmentation, you may need a well-planned routine with other pigment-targeting ingredients.

5. It is generally considered pregnancy-safe. However, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s still best to confirm your routine with your healthcare provider.

6. It can be combined with other actives. Depending on your skin and routine, azelaic acid can be used alongside ingredients like tretinoin, vitamin C, tranexamic acid, salicylic acid and peptides.

7. More isn’t always better. If your skin becomes irritated, dry or excessively sensitive, reduce how often you use it rather than forcing your skin to tolerate it.

Don’t expect overnight results. Azelaic acid works gradually. Consistent use, sun protection and controlling the cause of your pigmentation are all important for lasting improvement.
