A 16-year-old Grade 10 learner has tragically died after allegedly being forced to run as punishment for arriving late at school.

Amantle Mocumi, a student at Huhudi Secondary School in Ganyesa near Vryburg, collapsed shortly after she and other learners were reportedly instructed to run around the schoolyard. She was later declared deceased.

The North West Department of Education has confirmed the incident and announced that an investigation is underway. Police have also opened an inquest docket to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

Her family has described the moment they arrived at the school as devastating, saying they found Amantle lying unresponsive on the floor.

POLICE have arrested three suspects, including a teenager, in connection with the murder of retired Zambia Air Force Brigadier General Mike Obistor Mbewe, who went missing last week.

General Mbewe’s body was discovered in what police described as a mountainous area in Meanwood Ibex, in Lusaka.

Providing details that led to the arrest of the three suspects, Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said one of the suspects was found in possession of the deceased’s vehicle keys after a member of the public reported an abandoned car in Chainda.

“The vehicle keys were found in the possession of a 19-year-old male juvenile of Chainda Compound, who informed officers that he had collected the vehicle from the NAPSA Flats area together with Gift Chisenga before parking it near a church.

“Later that same day, at around 16:00 hours, Ms Ethel Mbewe, aged 49, reported her brother, Brigadier General Mike Obistor Mbewe, missing,” Ms Kaitisha said.

She said subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Gift Chisenga, aged 24, of 10 Miles in the Mungule area, and Christopher Banda, 23, yesterday.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Christopher Banda allegedly met the deceased in Chainda Compound and drove him to a nearby mountainous area. It is alleged that while at the location, Brigadier General Mbewe became unconscious.

“Police suspect that he may have been poisoned. The suspects allegedly abandoned him at the scene and drove his vehicle back to Chainda Compound, where it was later recovered.

“The suspects subsequently led officers to a mountainous area in Meanwood Ibex, where the body of Brigadier General Mbewe was discovered,” she said.

Ms Kaitisha said the three suspects are currently in police custody.

SUSPECT HELD FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFILING COUSIN

Police in Siavonga have held a 23-year-old man for allegedly defiling his mentally disturbed cousin.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says the suspect allegedly defiled his 19-year-old cousin when he went to visit the family in Kanyelele compound.

Namalongo says the alleged offence is reported to have occurred on Thursday between 20:00 hours and 21:00 hours.

The victim’s sister, who reported the case to police, stated she was preparing supper when she noticed that her younger sister was not outside with her.

The woman sent her 11-year-old daughter to check inside the house, but the child returned and informed her mother that she had found the victim in the suspect’s bedroom.

The reporter immediately went inside and found her sister in the suspect’s bedroom, and upon enquiry, the victim stated that the suspect had engaged her in unlawful carnal knowledge.

Members of the public alerted police and apprehended the suspect, who was later taken to Siavonga Police Station.

The victim was issued with a medical report form and referred to the hospital for examination and treatment, while the suspect is held at Siavonga Police Station and will appear in court soon.

‎Four people are battling for their lives at Matero Level One Hospital after sustaining serious injuries when they jumped from a moving vehicle.
‎
‎The incident happened on February 20, 2026, around 13:00 hours along Nsokolo Road, opposite Chingwere School in Matero Township, Lusaka.
‎
‎Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi says the accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number ACJ 6483, driven by 22-year-old Joe Sichula of Matero, who was later found to be unlicensed.
‎
‎Mr. Chilabi explains that the driver lost control of the vehicle while it was in motion adding that fearing for their safety, several passengers jumped out through the passenger door.

‎He states that as a result, four passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Matero Level One Hospital, where they are currently admitted and receiving treatment.

‎Mr. Chilabi further adds that police have since established that the driver was not licensed at the time of the incident.

FAMILY BRINGS DEAD BODY TO BANK AFTER INSURANCE CLAIM DISPUTE

There was big trouble at the Capitec branch in Stanger, KZN this Tuesday. A family shocked everyone by bringing the body of their dead relative inside the bank.

The family did this because they were struggling to get an insurance payout. They said the bank asked for "proof of death," so they decided to bring the body to show the bank that their relative had really passed away.

When people saw the body, staff and customers ran out of the building in fear. The police and emergency services came quickly and closed off the area.

The branch had to stop working for the day while the situation was handled.

'I had a son for a guy I dated, However, during the pregnancy he didn't deny it, he took care of the bills till i gave birth. Actually, my family didn't know I was pregnant cuz i only came home after childbirth, we weren't living together in the same house as I lived alone.

However, I apologized to my family and they accepted me back.. I wanted my baby daddy to come meet my family, not necessarily for marriage. Actually, my dad said, he should never take that boy unless he shows his face. I wanted him to establish a friendly relationship with my family and ask them what he should do before I get married out so that they will know he fathered my son, he never came close, he preferred to be behind the scenes though he was still providing for i and our son

He preferred supporting us from afar, the boy doesn't know him, there's no father and son bond ,.i mean just no relationship but he sent us money once in a while. Finally i met someone els and he accepted the boy, he later proposed and we got married, now we all live together as a family.

Fast forwarded, I just gave birth to a new baby, few days after, my ex called me after a very long silence. He heard I got married and just gave birth, all of a sudden he desires to establish a relationship with his son

The boy is now 5 years old, he is asking for privileges to call the boy from time to time and to visit us in order to get the boy to know him. He even made threatening remarks, that he would involve a lawyer if we refuse him. He wants to know the surname he answers, infact his sudden interest smells like trouble. I planned to let the boy know his true origin but till he turns 18.

Now my husband has made his stand after I told him about his request. My husband says he doesn't want to see him anywhere close to his family. I love my husband and I support him, but I'm afraid that If my baby's daddy goes to court, he can he be granted custody?
