How much water should you drink each day?

You have probably heard the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day. That is easy to remember and quite reasonable.

The human body comprises around 60% water. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to function properly. Water is needed for overall good health.

Plain drinking water contains zero calories and it helps in managing body weight and reducing caloric intake when substituted for drinks with calories.

Drinking water also prevents dehydration.

The U.S National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is about 15.5 cups (3.7 litres) of fluid a day for men, and about 11.5 cup (2.7 litres) of fluid a day for women.

Many people believe that sweet potatoes are ‘ too sweet’ and should not be eaten by diabetics, thereby substituting sweet potatoes for regular potatoes.This is wrong because sweet potatoes are safer and healthier.

Although, sweet potatoes are high in carbohydrates, their fibre content help slow down spikes in blood sugar levels.

When boiled, sweet potatoes are low in glycemic index (GI), meaning that they won’t spike your blood sugar compared to baked and fried sweet potatoes.

Next time, when shopping for food items, add sweet potatoes to the list.
