Our Lady of Sorrows is not a memorial of sadness. This is really a feast of Christian realism — our faith in Jesus is always lived in the ordinary realities of our daily lives. And in the real word we experience happiness and sadness, struggles and joys.

Jesus knew the joys of life and he also knew suffering and loss. Everything that he felt — the whole range of his human emotions — was shared by Mary. In everything we experience, especially pain and loss, we need to remember that Jesus and Mary have walked before us.

Jesus and Mary walked the path of sorrow to show us the way to redemption. They walked this path to show us that the way of the Cross is the way to the resurrection. Let us ask for the grace to follow Mary’s example — to offer everything in our lives for the glory of God!
