Chapter 8: Unseen Hurt
In the midst of the upcoming final examinations, the air at Olabisi Onabanjo University crackled with the tension of impending farewells. Jide, Nneka, and Lara found themselves entangled in the demands of project writing and exam preparations, each wrestling with the challenges that marked the culmination of their academic journey.
"Have you started reading?" Gbolahan, the class representative, asked Jide one day.
"I'm trying. One has to grapple with project writing and, at the same time, read. At this stage, I'm tired already," Jide lamented.
"Swears brothers, if only OOU can just return my school fees. I'm already tired," Gbolahan answered, and they both laughed it off.
"By the way, where is your babe?" Gbolahan asked, looking around for Nneka.
Before Jide could answer, Lara appeared. "Are you two gay?" Lara asked jokingly. "You two are always together in a manner that's strange for guys."
"Lol, I'm not gay. I can't say about Jide, though. I only speak for myself," Gbolahan answered and quickly walked away laughing.
Jide shook his head amidst smiles, watching Gbolahan leave. "Since the day you told me your favourite song is 'Somebody's Son go love me,' I've started to doubt you," Lara continued teasing Jide, who was now speechless.
"Honestly, Lara," was all Jide managed to say before he tried to grab her, and immediately, Lara fled.
Without intention, like a reflex action, Jide sprung into action and ran after Lara, forgetting they were in school, forgetting they were in front of other coursemates.
The whole class stared in disbelief, with many screaming, "Awwn, awwn, see love."
Nneka, oblivious to the commotion inside, entered the classroom only to find it eerily silent. Puzzled, she scanned the room and saw Gbolahan grinning, classmates giggling, and a conspicuous absence of Jide. Confused, she inquired, "What happened?"
Gbolahan chuckled and pointed towards the door. "You missed quite a show. Jide and Lara engaged in a love chase. Looked like a scene from a romance movie."
Nneka's eyes widened in disbelief, her heart stung by an unspoken realization. Her charismatic, dependable friend, Jide, was caught in a playful exchange with another girl.
As Gbolahan narrated the scene with a chuckle, Nneka felt a mix of emotions—hurt, confusion, and an odd tinge of jealousy. Without uttering a word, she turned on her heels and left the classroom, leaving behind the lingering echoes of laughter.
Outside, the campus buzzed with the usual activities, but Nneka's world had suddenly become muted. She walked with a heavy heart, pondering the unexpected turbulence that had entered her once-stable friendship with Jide.
Meanwhile, Jide, still carried away by the chase, enjoyed the playful banter with Lara. "Aren't you a naughty little thing?" he asked, looking at her.
Suddenly, he noticed Lara had faint marks on her chin and thick eyebrows. He thought, "she isn't that bad after all, she's pretty too, just like Nneka."
Speaking of Nneka, Jide took a quick scan around the whole class looking for her but couldn't lay his eyes on her anywhere.
Hours later, having realized the consequences of his actions, Jide started to wonder where Nneka had disappeared to. Realization struck him like a bolt of lightning—Nneka might have seen the playful exchange, and it dawned on him that he needed to find her.
Outside, the sun cast long shadows across the campus grounds as Jide retraced his steps, searching for Nneka. His mind buzzed with anxiety, a sense of urgency pushing him to find her and explain that it was all just a playful moment.
Finally spotting her in the distance, he quickened his pace, calling out, "Nneka!" But she kept walking, pretending not to hear.
When he reached her side, he attempted a smile. "Hey, what's up? Why did you leave like that?"
Nneka, without looking at him, replied coldly, "I didn't want to interrupt your playtime with Lara. Seemed like you two were having a blast."
Jide's attempt to explain was met with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Save it, Jide. I don't need an explanation. Have fun with Lara."
Nneka walked away, leaving Jide standing there, bewildered and regretful. He watched as she disappeared into the distance, wondering how a playful moment turned into such a serious misunderstanding.
Back in the classroom, Lara, realizing the unintended consequences of their antics, shared a concerned look with Gbolahan. The atmosphere in the room had shifted from playful to somber, and Jide's actions had left traces of hurt and confusion.
As days unfolded, the once-tight trio found themselves navigating the final stretch of their university journey in an unexpected way.

Chapter 7: The Trial of a Heart
As the final year examinations at Olabisi Onabanjo University drew near, Nneka found solace in her sanctuary—her room. Her passion for writing beckoned her, and the night had woven a cocoon of silence around her, leaving her alone with the company of her thoughts.
Nneka's room was adorned with bookshelves that held her literary treasures, casting a warm and inviting ambiance with soft lamplight. She had transformed her space into a haven for creativity, a place where her characters came to life, and her stories breathed their first words.
On this particular evening, she sat cross-legged on her bed, surrounded by her collection of books. Her laptop rested on her lap, its screen illuminated with a work-in-progress document. The rhythm of her fingers on the keyboard tapped out the symphony of her imagination.
Just then, there was a soft knock on her door, and she looked up, a mischievous smile dancing on her lips.
"Enter," she declared, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
The door creaked open, and Jide stepped inside. He was greeted by a sight that felt like a portal into Nneka's world. Her room was an extension of her spirit, brimming with literary adventures waiting to unfold.
"What's going on in here?" Jide inquired, his eyes scanning the room with genuine curiosity.
Nneka chuckled and playfully patted the spot next to her on the bed. "Just a bit of writer's block and midnight contemplation. You're welcome to join the chaos."
Jide accepted the invitation, sitting beside her. He noticed the open document on her laptop and the notepad filled with scribbles and crossed-out lines. "Working on another masterpiece, I see?"
Nneka laughed, her voice soft and melodic. "Oh, I wish. I'm currently in the 'writing, rewriting, and contemplating existence' phase."
Their light-hearted banter and shared moments were a testament to their friendship. In these precious moments, the trials and tribulations of life seemed to fade away, replaced by the sheer joy of companionship.
And so, amid the sea of books and the soft glow of the night, Nneka and Jide found solace, even if only for a while, from the trials that life had presented. It was a reminder that in the midst of doubts and challenges, their friendship remained an anchor, holding them steady.
Certainly, let's continue with a playful gesture that deepens Nneka's feelings:
---
Their shared laughter lingered in the room like a sweet melody, creating a comfortable space where their bond could flourish. Nneka playfully nudged Jide's shoulder and teased, "You know, you're the only person who can turn my writer's block into a comedy show."
Jide grinned, responding in kind, "Well, I'm your biggest fan, always here to provide inspiration or distraction, whichever you prefer."
Nneka looked at him, her eyes filled with genuine affection. "Jide, I treasure our friendship more than words can express. You're not just my biggest fan, you're my confidant, my partner in crime, and my source of laughter on the toughest days."
Jide's heart skipped a beat as he met her gaze. The connection between them, once shrouded in uncertainty, had grown into something deep and irreplaceable. Their playful banter had a way of dissolving the boundaries between friendship and something more.
As Nneka reflected on their journey, she found herself grappling with the realization that her feelings had evolved beyond the realm of friendship. It was a silent revelation that tugged at her heartstrings, a tender acknowledgment that she might as well love Jide.
But the fear of jeopardizing their precious connection held her back. She knew that crossing the line between friendship and romance could be a risk, and the thought of losing the friendship that meant the world to her was a daunting prospect.
In that quiet moment, Nneka looked at Jide with a mixture of emotions, her playful gesture now carrying a more profound weight. She didn't need to say a word; he could sense the shift in her gaze, a silent confession of emotions that were both beautiful and complicated.

Don't Pop Pimples!
Popping pimples might seem like a quick solution, but it's a skincare mistake. When you squeeze a pimple, you can make it worse. It can push germs deeper into your skin, causing redness and scars. Your skin can get hurt too.
The better plan is to wait. Let your skin heal on its own. Use gentle, acne-friendly products to stop pimples from forming. If you have lots of acne, talk to a skin doctor for help. So remember, don't pop pimples – be patient, take good care of your skin, and get expert advice if you need it.
My Nigerian people, I know say this one na story to una, but still I just say make I still tell una.

Healing in Forgetfulness
✨
Life has a way of leaving us with emotional scars. We experience pain, heartbreak, and disappointment that can linger in our memories. But there's a curious phenomenon that occurs as we heal – the details of our past hurts begin to fade. It's like we forget why we were hurt in the first place.
This apparent forgetfulness isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of healing. When you can't remember the exact reasons for your past pain, it means you've moved beyond it. It means you've grown, learned, and adapted.
This isn't to say that you should forget entirely; our scars are a testament to our resilience. But when the specifics of your hurt become a blur, it's a clear sign that you've made progress. You've let go of the past and are embracing a brighter, happier future.
When you forget, you are healed.

Chapter 6: Crossroads and Revelations
..
As Jide and Nneka navigated their final year at Olabisi Onabanjo University, their friendship had deepened, becoming an integral part of their lives. The warmth in Jide's eyes, the lingering gazes, and the unspoken words that now wove themselves into their connection had become undeniable.
Countless times, Jide has laid on his bed at night, unsure if telling Nneka about how he felt was the right thing to do.
"You are so dumb, now you've been friend-zoned" Jide finds himself mumbling to himself on countless nights.
But it all happened too fast, even he couldn't comprehend how the connection happened, no one who became so suddenly close to a stranger like that wouldn't have thought they clicked.
And truly they did, Jide and Nneka's friendship happened miraculously and it felt as if they had known each other for years and Jide thought that was the cue, that fate was probably rooting for him but then, he only got himself friend-zoned.
On a Wednesday morning, in their favorite campus café, bathed in sunlight and filled with the aroma of freshly cooked Egusi soup, was a place that held a multitude of shared memories and emotions. Nneka, with her perceptive nature, couldn't ignore the unspoken tension that had arisen between them. It was time to address the elephant in the room.
So, "Jide," she began, her voice gentle but tinged with uncertainty,
"We've been through so much together, and you mean the world to me. But... there's something I've been feeling, something I'm not sure how to put into words."
Jide's heart raced as he met her gaze, sensing that this was a pivotal moment.
"Nneka, you can always tell me anything. You know that, right?"
She nodded slowly, taking a deep breath. "I've sensed a change in you lately, I don't want to misunderstand, but I need to know what's in your heart."
The weight of the moment hung heavily in the air. Jide knew he couldn't continue to hide the truth forever.
"Nneka," he confessed, "you're right. My feelings for you... they've grown stronger over time. I can't help it. But I don't want to jeopardize our friendship."
"I thought I could see you the way you see me, but it doesn't just seem possible, I'm sorry"
He continued "I didn't make myself like this, something else did and I don't think it's in my place to end my feelings for you"
Nneka's gaze held a mixture of emotions—surprise, confusion, and a touch of vulnerability. "Jide, you're my dearest friend, and I don't want to lose what we have. But I also need to figure out what's in my heart."
As they shared their truths, the transparency between them was both relieving and challenging. They were committed to preserving their friendship, now that the tension of unspoken emotions had been laid bare.
After that day, Nneka started noticing a new girl with Jide.. She was a fellow student and a member of the press club, where Jide had become actively involved. Lara was a captivating personality known for her gentle and calm nature. Her infectious smile and vivacious personality could light up any room, making everyone feel at ease.
It was through their shared passion for journalism that Jide and Lara had crossed paths. They collaborated on numerous projects and engaged in long conversations about media trends, storytelling techniques, and their aspirations in the world of journalism.
Lara had a secret of her own, one that she had kept hidden, even from Jide. She had developed feelings for him that went beyond friendship. She admired his charisma, kindness, and the deep conversations they shared, and it was difficult for her to hide her growing affection.
Nneka, observing the shift in Jide's schedule and the emerging influence of Lara in his life, couldn't help but be affected by these changes. The newfound tension weighed on her mind, leading to moments of introspection about her own feelings and the future of her friendship with Jide.
Lara's presence became more prominent in Jide's life, sparking curiosity and a sense of something amiss within Nneka. Lara and Jide's interactions included working late on projects, which sometimes resulted in laughter and shared stories that Nneka couldn't help but overhear.
And to make matters worse, Jide also started to mention Lara to Nneka.
For instance, when Nneka bought a new phone pouch, all Jide could say was "Wow, Lara owns a pouch like this too" he would say with a broad smile on his face.
As Nneka observed Lara's gentleness, her unwavering support for Jide, and the genuine warmth in their friendship, an unfamiliar feeling stirred within her.
"I'm not jealous, I'm probably just concerned," Nneka said reassuring herself.

Chapter 5: A NEW BEGINNING
As Jide got close to Nneka, his mind drifted back to the present, this whole time he had been thinking about the whole crazy experience he has had with Nneka in the past few months, how they were once upon a time complete strangers even though they had shared the same four walls for years, and how these complete strangers have now become best of friends.
As they walked off the football field, their laughter and conversation resonated with pure joy. They discussed the thrilling match, analyzing every goal and near miss with excitement. They were more than just friends; they were kindred spirits, and the world around them seemed to disappear when they were together.
The sunset bathed the campus in a warm, golden glow, casting long shadows as they walked. It was a poignant moment, an evening that hinted at new beginnings. Jide's heart carried the weight of unvoiced emotions, and he wrestled with the urge to lay his feelings bare.
Jide couldn't contain his happiness as he remembered the match-winning goal he scored. His grin was contagious, and Nneka found herself smiling too.
"That goal was for you, Nneka. Your cheers from the stands were like a source of energy for me," Jide said.
Nneka playfully rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, Jide. It was all you out there! I was just adding some noise."
Jide chuckled, shaking his head. "You're my lucky charm, Nneka."
Amid their friendly banter, a few fellow students approached, interrupting their conversation with praise and admiration for Jide's performance. Jide gracefully accepted their compliments but made sure to include Nneka. "Nneka was my secret weapon in the stands, cheering me on."
Nneka blushed at the attention but graciously shared the spotlight with Jide. "It was a fantastic team effort, and Jide was amazing."
As the congratulatory crowd dispersed, Jide and Nneka continued to discuss the match, reliving the moments that had taken their breath away. It was clear that they shared a genuine connection that extended beyond words.
As the evening continued, they found themselves beneath a blooming jacaranda tree. The golden evening turned the surroundings into a breathtaking scene, making it a perfect setting for heartfelt conversations. Their talk shifted to their dreams, aspirations, and the uncertainties that the impending graduation brought.
Nneka leaned back, taking in the serene atmosphere. "You know, Jide, moments like these make me grateful for our friendship. It's like we share something unique."
"Of course, we're more than all of these, we're made from the stars, we are destined lovers, you just can't see it yet, you're just blind to the reality" Jide wished to say for a moment.
Instead, Jide nodded, his gaze fixed on Nneka. "Absolutely, Nneka. I cherish every moment we spend together."
The warmth of their friendship enveloped them as they continued to talk, laugh, and reminisce about their journey together. Jide's admiration for Nneka was more than evident in the way he looked at her, but he knew that their friendship was too precious to risk.
"I can't believe it's almost time to leave this place," Nneka sighed, her eyes reflecting nostalgia.
Jide nodded, echoing her sentiments. "It feels like we just started, doesn't it?"
While the golden evening bathed them in warmth, Jide couldn't help but feel a bittersweet tug at his heart. He knew that Nneka was about to step into the world without him as her best friend.
As they continued to discuss their dreams, their laughter and shared moments emphasized their deep connection. The unspoken words, the emotions held beneath the surface, were like silent echoes in the air.
The twilight deepened, and the evening's beauty seemed to mirror the intricate emotions that Jide and Nneka grappled with. The golden hue shifted into the indigo of night, and the silent tension between them remained unbroken.
As they said their goodbyes under the enchanting moonlit night, Jide's heart ached with unspoken love and a determination to respect Nneka's wishes. The unexpressed emotions cast a poignant shadow on their newfound beginning.
