They grew louder.
Sharper.
Demanding.
“Run.”
She ran.
“Hide.”
She hid.
“Leave them.”
She left.
Her life improved—faster, easier—but it no longer felt like hers.
One night, the whisper came differently.
It didn’t sound like a warning.
It sounded like a command.
“Someone close to you must fall… so you can rise.”
Zara stood still.
“No,” she said out loud, her voice shaking. “I won’t do that.”
Silence.
Then the whispers returned—no longer soft, no longer distant.
They surrounded her.
“You must.”
“This is the only way.”
“You’ve come too far.”
She covered her ears, but it didn’t help.
Because the voices weren’t outside.
They were inside her.
Desperate, Zara ran to the only place she felt safe—the same spot under the lantern where it all began.
“Stop!” she cried. “What do you want from me?!”
For the first time… the whisper answered.
Clear.
Cold.
Familiar.
“We are you.”
Zara’s breath caught.
“Every choice you didn’t make… every path you were too afraid to take… we became them.”
Her mind spun.
“You’re… my future?”
“No,” the voice replied.
A pause.
“We are your possibilities.”
Zara staggered back.
Every whisper… every warning…
It wasn’t fate.
It was her.
Choosing.
Changing.
Controlling.
Without understanding what she was breaking.
Tears filled her eyes.
“So if I keep listening…” she whispered.
“You will become us.”
Her chest tightened.
“And if I stop?”
Silence lingered.
Then, softly—
“You will be human again.”
The lantern flickered.
The wind passed.
And for the first time since it began…
There were no whispers.
Zara sat alone in the quiet night.
Her notebook still open.
Her pen trembling in her hand.
She didn’t know what tomorrow would bring anymore.
And for the first time…
That terrified her.
But also—
It felt real.

The Girl Who Heard Tomorrow
Zara had always loved quiet nights.
There was something about the stillness—the way the world seemed to pause—that made her feel like she could finally hear her own thoughts. That evening was no different. She sat outside her small home, the warm glow of a lantern flickering beside her, her notebook open but untouched.
The wind moved gently through the trees.
Then she heard it.
A whisper.
Soft. Faint. Almost like it didn’t belong to this world.
“Don’t trust him…”
Zara froze.
Her eyes darted around the empty yard. No one. Just shadows stretching long across the ground.
She swallowed. Maybe I imagined it.
Then it came again—clearer this time.
“Tomorrow… he will betray you.”
Her heart began to race.
The next morning, Zara couldn’t shake the voice from her mind.
Her best friend, Tunde, waved at her from across the street, smiling the same way he always did. But something felt… different. The whisper echoed in her head.
Don’t trust him.
So she didn’t.
She avoided him all day—his questions, his laughter, even his concern. By evening, she saw him standing behind a shop, speaking in hushed tones with a stranger.
Zara stepped closer, hiding behind a wall.
“…yes, her name is Zara,” Tunde said quietly.
Her breath caught.
“…she doesn’t know yet.”
The world tilted beneath her feet.
The whisper had been right.
That night, Zara sat under the lantern again—but this time, she wasn’t afraid.
She was waiting.
And the whispers came.
“Don’t go out tomorrow.”
She listened.
The next day, a fight broke out in the market she usually visited. She stayed home—safe.
“Say yes when he asks.”
She obeyed.
A job opportunity she almost refused turned out to be exactly what she needed.
Each whisper felt like a gift. A secret advantage.
A power.
But something strange began to happen.
The more she listened, the more the world around her changed.
Colors felt duller. People seemed distant. Conversations sounded… delayed, like echoes.
And the whispers?
