When I see Nigerian women, especially Southerners, complain that Nigerian men are marrying young and old European and American women because of paper, it just looks to me that we really do not understand what is happening in our own society.

A lot of these White women are educated, with degrees from either Ivy League universities or public universities. Most have jobs, or have their own business, with personal and family money, and are not high maintenance either emotionally or financially.

Yet, to marry them, these young Nigerian men don't pay a bride price, and, as is the custom in Europe and America, the bride's family will almost certainly pay for the wedding.

Now, juxtapose this with a Nigerian girl, educated or not, who brings little to the table besides her reproductive organs, and who has a rather high maintenance, which is fed by an entitlement mentality that is oversized.

A famous and not-so-beautiful Nigerian celeb who had been in and out of more relationships than Peter Obi has been in and out of political parties once said if a man tells her he liked her, he already owes her. And I looked at the woman who said such. You could go to Rwanda and meet hundreds of more beautiful women who do not have such a commercial love mindset.

Then, after spending millions to get her to the point where she condescends to marry you, she takes you to her family for them to get their own pound of flesh. Various marriage lists are presented to you. And you wonder what a $300 bottle of Martel is doing on a traditional marriage list. Did her ancestors even know where France is located? How much more to drink Martel?

When greed becomes the creed, young men will flee. And that is what is responsible for the upsurge of young Nigerian men, mainly from Southern Nigeria, marrying young and old White women.

And it is gradually affecting even Arewa. The guy in this photo is Isa Sulaiman Panshekara. He was 26 when he married a 46-year-old American woman named Janine Sanchez. This is what Isa said after a few months of marriage to Janune:

"I no fit love any Nigerian woman again after wetin I taste."

His exact words. Can you blame him?

In conclusion, it is not paper that makes these young men marry them. They are looking for real love. Everybody wants real love. And when they find it, age is no barrier.

The only real love most Nigerian men will experience is love from their mothers.

The first photo shows Oba Ladapo Ademola, the then Alake of Egbaland, wearing an agbada in 1923. The second photo shows a Lukumi Omoluabi (how Yorubas were known in those days) weaver weaving a*o oke materials for clothes, such as the Alake's agbada, using local technology and fabric.

Other than the shoe, whose origin I cannot vouch for, not one item worn by the Alake was imported or of foreign origin.
