NDLEA Arrests South African Woman at Abuja Airport Over Alleged 5.75kg He**in Smuggling

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a South African woman at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja over the alleged importation of 5.75 kilograms of he**in into Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the agency, the suspect, identified as Will Jessica Ann, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives during passenger clearance after arriving in Abuja on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha.

The anti-narcotics agency alleged that the illicit drugs were concealed inside the suspect's luggage in an attempt to evade security checks. NDLEA further stated that the woman was travelling with her three-year-old son, a circumstance investigators believe may have been intended to reduce suspicion during the screening process.

Following a detailed search, officers reportedly recovered the suspected he**in, weighing approximately 5.75 kilograms. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has repeatedly stressed the agency's commitment to strengthening surveillance at Nigeria's airports and border points to curb drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

The latest arrest highlights the agency's ongoing efforts to intercept narcotic shipments and bring those responsible to justice. Authorities have indicated that further investigations are underway to determine whether the suspect was acting alone or as part of a wider international drug trafficking syndicate.

NDLEA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the fight against drug-related crimes.

As of the time of filing this report, the agency has not announced formal charges, and the suspect remains under investigation. Under Nigerian law, every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
