Have you ever seen someone say, "Genetics has a lot to do with hair growth, period!"?
Yes, genetics play a role, but they are not the whole story.
Your genetics can influence things like:
• Your curl pattern.
• Your hair density.
• How long your hair's growth cycle is.
• Whether you're more likely to experience certain types of hair loss.
But here's what genetics don't decide...
How gently you detangle your hair.
How much breakage you prevent.
How well you care for your scalp.
How consistent you are with your routine.
How much of your growth you actually retain.
Hair grows from the scalp, but length comes from retention. If your hair grows half an inch every month but breaks off just as fast, it will seem like your hair "isn't growing."
That's why two people with similar genetics can have completely different results based on how they care for their hair.
Can everyone grow waist-length hair? No. Genetics can set a limit for some people. But many people never get close to their own potential because breakage keeps stealing the length they've already grown.
So instead of using genetics as a reason to give up, focus on the things you can control. You might be surprised by what your hair is capable of.
This is the last time I'm going to talk about this topic. From now on, I'll simply continue sharing my own hair journey, because that was my main goal when I started creating content in the first place. 🥰
