*What Upsets the Normal Vaginal Ecosystem*

A normal, healthy va**na contains bacteria and sometimes yeast without necessarily having an infection. But certain things can change the environment in the va**na, enabling bacterial or yeast overgrowth and causing symptoms.

These include:

*Douching, or rinsing the va**na with water or other liquid

*Female hormone level changes- E.g Menstrual period

*Taking antibiotics

*Vaginal in*******se

*Pregnancy and breastfeeding

While not all of these can be avoided, douching is unnecessary and potentially harmful.

*Vaginitis Prevention*

Keep yourself clean and dry. Remember, you are not supposed to use anything in your va**na/vulva area. Douching may cause irritation, too, and, more importantly, could hide or spread an infection. It also removes the healthy bacteria that do the housekeeping in your va**na.

*Douching Is Never Recommended*

Avoid clothes that hold in heat and moisture. Nylon underwear, tight jeans, gym shorts and leggings that don’t breathe, and pantyhose without a cotton panel can lead to yeast infections.

Eating yogurt with active cultures (check the label) might help you get fewer infections.

Condoms are the best way to prevent passing infections between sexual partners- this is for people with multiple partners.

Get a complete gynecologic exam every year, including a Pap smear if your doctor recommends it.

*Vaginal Imbalances Can Result In;

*Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)- most common

*Trichomoniasis

Note that: Having a va**nal imbalance may also increase your chances of a urinary tract infection (UTI). The earlier it is treated or prevented, the best.

So Lets talk about this most common infection-Bacterial vaginosis (BV)

The most common va**nal imbalance issue is bacterial vaginosis (BV). Women with BV have high numbers of many different species of bacteria in their va**nas.

Healthy women have lower numbers of fewer species of bacteria in their va**nas.
These additional bacteria cause the pH of the va**nal to elevate above 4.5. This reduces the number of lactobacilli present in the va**na.

Besides an elevated va**nal pH, women with BV often experience:

*A fishy odor

*Burning during urination

*A milky or gray va**nal discharge

*Itching

Doctors say they aren’t completely certain what causes BV, but some factors appear to put some women at a higher risk.

These include:

Having more than one sexual partner or a new sexual partner.

Douching, or rinsing your va**na with soap and water (the va**na cleanses itself and douching can disrupt its natural balance)

A natural lack of lactobacilli bacteria (some women don’t have high levels of good bacteria present in their va**nas, which can lead to BV)

Treatment of BV most often includes use of antibiotic medication. These are given orally or as a gel that’s inserted into the va**na. Some doctors may also recommend a probiotic in addition to — but not in lieu of — antibiotics.
