Heat is good, really. If you know how to use it properly it will work for you.
The thing is many of use either don’t use heat at all or abuse it and end up with heat damage.
In order to use it right know what your hair can take and what not. Don’t use the same temperature as your auntie Mary just because her hair turned out great.
