IS HIV STILL IN EXISTENCE ?
Yes, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is still in existence. Although significant progress has been made in managing and treating the virus, HIV remains a major global health issue.
Here are some key points to note:
- HIV attacks the body's immune system, making it harder to fight off infections and diseases.
- There is no cure for HIV, but antiretroviral therapy (ART) can control the virus and prevent it from progressing to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
- If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS, which is life-threatening.
- HIV can be transmitted through bodily fluids, such as blood, semen, vaginal and re**al fluids, and breast milk.
- Prevention methods include condom use, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and safe blood transfusion practices.
- Stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV remain significant challenges in many parts of the world.
WAYS TO PREVENT HIV
Here are some effective ways to prevent HIV:
1. *Use condoms*: Correct and consistent use of condoms during s*x can significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
2. *Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)*: Take daily medication to prevent HIV infection if you're at high risk.
3. *Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)*: Take medication within 72 hours of potential exposure to prevent infection.
4. *Get tested*: Regular HIV testing can help identify infections early, and treatment can prevent transmission.
5. *Use sterile needles*: Avoid sharing needles or syringes, and use sterile ones for injections.
6. *Avoid sharing personal items*: Don't share razors, toothbrushes, or other personal items that may have blood on them.
7. *Choose safe tattoo and piercing practices*: Ensure equipment is sterile and used safely.
8. *Limit s*xual partners*: Reducing the number of s*xual partners can lower the risk of HIV transmission.
9. *Get vaccinated*: Vaccines can protect against other STIs, like HPV and hepatitis, which can increase HIV risk.
