How to care for your type A(1)
Type 1 (Straight) hair is naturally smooth, shiny, and often silky because scalp oil travels easily from root to tip.
The main challenges are oiliness, flatness, and buildup — not dryness like curly or coily hair.
Here’s how to care for it properly 👇🏽
1. Cleanse Regularly
Straight hair gets oily faster than other types.
Best practice
Wash 2–4 times a week depending on oil level
Use a gentle or clarifying shampoo
Focus shampoo on the scalp, not the ends
Avoid: Over-washing with harsh shampoos that strip the scalp completely.
2. Use Lightweight Conditioners
Heavy creams will weigh straight hair down and make it greasy.
Choose
Light, silicone-free or rinse-out conditioners
Apply mainly to mid-lengths and ends
Avoid the scalp unless it’s very dry
3. Control Oil & Buildup
Because oil spreads quickly, product buildup is common.
Tips
Clarify once every 2–3 weeks
Use dry shampoo between washes if needed
Avoid thick oils and butters
4. Add Volume, Not Weight
Straight hair can look flat easily.
Do
Use volumizing mousse or light leave-in spray
Blow-dry with head flipped forward
Try layered cuts or curtain bangs
Don’t
Use heavy gels or thick creams daily
5. Heat Styling Protection
Straight hair often uses heat tools more frequently.
Always
Apply heat protectant before straighteners or curling irons
Keep heat below 180–200°C
Limit daily heat styling
6. Moisture Balance Still Matters
Even oily straight hair can have dry ends.
Deep condition once a month
Trim split ends every 8–12 weeks
Use a light serum only on tips if needed
7. Scalp Care Is Key
Healthy scalp = healthy shine.
Massage scalp weekly to boost circulation
Exfoliate scalp monthly if there’s buildup or dandruff
Avoid scratching with nails
Quick Routine Example
Wash: 2–3x weekly
Condition: Every wash (lightweight)
Clarify: Every 2–3 weeks
Deep Condition: Monthly
Trim: Every 2–3 months
Key Truth
Straight hair doesn’t need more products — it needs the right lightweight ones.
Too much product causes dullness faster than dryness.
Do you know that your straight hair doesn't need too much haircare product?

✨ Key Truth
Shrinkage means your hair is alive, elastic, and moisturized.
Managing it is about stretching safely, not forcing length.

Hair shrinkage is normal, healthy, and common—especially for curly and coily (Type 3 & 4) hair.
It means your hair has elasticity and moisture.
But if you want to manage shrinkage (reduce it, not eliminate it), here’s what actually works 👇🏽

How to know your hair ends are damaged
Your hair ends usually show signs long before breakage becomes obvious.
You just have to know what to look for.
