A day at Dia Beacon. Such a disappointment. We were there years ago when it first opened and were wowed. This time with the exception of the Serra and Warhol exhibits, I didn't understand what was there or why...broken glass, large rectangles out of string, aprons on a wall...have I become a philistine?

Boaters!
Boating season is coming or, for some of you, it’s already here. It’s time to check your on board medical equipment.
AED: Make sure the light is blinking or the green check mark is lit and that the AED is not making noise. Check the date on the battery and pads to make sure they are within expiration. Please call us if you need new pads or batteries or if the AED is blinking red: 212-873-0105.
BP Monitors/Pulse Oximeters, etc.: These take over-the-counter batteries. They should be checked and probably changed every year.
Oxygen: Oxygen does not go bad unless there is a leak or it has been used. Aluminum tanks are supposed to be recertified every 5 years. In actuality, people usually get them recertified when they are refilling the tanks. But it is a good idea to check the amount of O2 in the tank. Full is 2000, time to refill 500. And make sure that the oxygen tubing (nasal cannula and non-rebreather mask) are both in good shape.
Refill items used: Check and see what items may have been used during the past year and refill them as necessary. Call us if you have questions.
Trauma Packs: The QuikClot in your Core Trauma Packs have an expiration date on them. Please check to make sure that the date is still within expiration.
Questions? Call us if you:
• Have any questions about anything in your kit
• Need replacements for expired items.
• Want to purchase new equipment.
• Want Video CPR Training and Certification
AEDIQ-Making you AED/CPR smart
Ever wonder how an AED works, why it shocks, or doesn’t shock? Once the pads are on the patient, the AED will read the patient’s heartbeat and determine if it is regular, ventricular fibrillation (VF), ventricular tachycardia (VT) or some other arrythmia. The AED can shock if it’s VT or VF but not if it is anything else. Since VT and VF are the most common rhythms accounting for 65-70% of all sudden cardiac arrests, using an AED on the patient is life-saving. And using it quickly is important also. Data show that if the AED is used on the patient in the first minute of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), there is a 90% chance of a good outcome; 20% if used at the eighth minute. And you don’t have to worry about shocking someone with a regular heartbeat, the AED won’t shock.
If the AED says “shock advised” do not hesitate to clear everyone from the patient and deliver the shock. Then follow the AED instructions: continue CPR. Stop CPR if the patient shows ‘signs of life’, i.e., make a voluntary movement: eye opening, speaking, moving a limb. Leave the AED pads on since the patient may go back into SCA.
Need more information, want to buy or replace batteries on an AED, give Core Medical Systems a call at (212) 873-0105 or visit our website at www.coremedicalsystems.com or email us at [email protected].
