Real Nails

Jokes aside, a short, sharp almond is one of those cases where what you want clashes with the geometry of the nail.

The narrower and sharper you want your almond shape, the more length you need to create that smooth, elegant taper. If you over-file the sidewalls of a short nail, you weaken the structure and throw off the proportions. Instead of a beautiful almond, you end up with those little “sunflower seeds.” 🌻

My rule of thumb for a defined almond shape is roughly 1:1 — the free edge should be about the same length as the nail bed. Of course, those proportions need to be adjusted depending on the natural shape and width of the nail plate.

Because nails aren’t just about shape. They’re architecture.

Every time I buy a course, part of my brain thinks the job is already done. 😂

I’ve already imagined the results, the new skills, the improved version of myself… and then I actually open the course.

And apparently, watching isn’t enough. You have to do the assignments, practice, make mistakes, try again… basically, work. 😅

My special talent is getting stuck on one small step and leaving the whole course untouched for weeks.

So my new experiment is simple: stop buying more knowledge and actually use what I’ve already paid for.

GUILTY PLEASURE

Pleasure always comes at a price.

We all have a guilty pleasure.
Something we enjoy so much that we don’t always stop to think about what it’s actually costing us.

And I’m not just talking about money.

Sometimes the price is our time, energy, or even our health — and somehow, we keep doing it anyway.

Mine? Perfect nails.

I can easily spend 2.5 hours on one set, even though the business side of me knows I should be working much faster. Honestly, I’m probably costing myself money.

But I just can’t stop at “good enough.”

I want the nails strong but still thin and elegant. I’ll go over the shape one more time for that perfect finishing touch. I’ll make sure the cuticles are immaculate and take a tiny brush to get the color as close to them as possible — so the manicure stays looking fresh for as long as possible.

Now multiply that by 3–4 clients a day.

Does it take a toll?

My eyes? Yep.
My back? Definitely.
Exhaustion? Oh, absolutely.

But then I look at the finished result and think…

Yep. That’s my guilty pleasure.
