I think a lot of people misunderstand mental strength.

They think strength means never needing support.
Never asking for help.
Never leaning on anyone.
Never admitting that things are hard.

Are you ready to go on this quest together?

I don’t believe that.

To me, being your own hero means choosing not to abandon yourself.
It means taking ownership of your healing.
It means showing up honestly.
It means staying in the process even when it’s slow.

And my role?
I’m not the hero in my clients’ story.
I’m the sidekick.
The supporter.
The person who walks beside them while they rebuild trust in themselves.

That’s real empowerment.
Not dependency.
Not rescue.
Partnership.

When I coach, I look for the sparkle in their eyes.

When my clients light up during a conversation, or when I notice they drop a random word when they talk, I know it's a topic that needs more attention.
That little seed can turn into a goal and then, when we start watering it, it suddenly becomes real. Even if we never reach the goal, as long as working towards it lights that inner fire, we're on the right track.

Last week one of my clients found a new goal. Not letting her physical challenges (cerebral palsy) stop her and casting aside the opinion of others, we will now start working towards it. All because she dropped the word bodybuilding in a conversation.

What word or topic should you drop into conversations more often?

When your outlet disappears, you realize how much it was holding together.

A lot of people think exercise is just about fitness.

But for many people, it’s more than that.
It’s regulation.
It’s release.
It’s structure.
It’s identity.
It’s the one hour where the noise gets quiet.

When I injured myself 4 weeks ago, I realised once again the value of exercise in my life. When injury, pain, or life circumstances take working out away, the impact is often bigger than people expect.

It’s not just: I can’t train the way I want.
It becomes: I lost the thing that helped me cope.

That’s why adapting matters.
Not because we lower the standard — but because we protect the person.

I love training.
I believe in movement deeply.
But I will never sell exercise as punishment.

Not for a body that is already exhausted.
Not for a mind that is already overloaded.
Not for a person who is already carrying more than most people can see.
Frankly, not for anyone.

The evidence is clear: physical activity can help reduce depressive symptoms and support health.
But that does not mean more is always better.
And it definitely does not mean harder is always smarter.

The right question isn’t:
How much can you force?

The better question is:
What kind of movement supports you best right now?

Your inner voice is training you—every day.

The way you talk to yourself doesn’t just change how you feel about yourself; it can shape what you do next.

Think about the difference between:
“I hope I manage to finish this today…”
vs.
“I can take the next step. I’ll start with 10 minutes.”

Or after a rough day:
“See… I failed again.”
vs.
“Today was hard. I still showed up. What’s the smallest next step?”

Why this matters:

In cognitive-behavioral models, thoughts influence emotions and behavior—and changing unhelpful thought patterns is one pathway to changing behavior over time.

When we hold a belief about ourselves (“I always mess up” / “I’m someone who follows through”), we’re more likely to selectively notice “evidence” that fits it (hello, confirmation bias).

In performance contexts (especially sport), self-talk interventions show a moderate positive effect on task performance on average.

A practical place to start:
Pick one self-talk line that’s believable and action-oriented.
• “I can do the next right step.”
• “I don’t need motivation first; I need a start.”
• "This is hard, and I can still move forward.”
• “I am the person who keeps promises to myself.”
• “I am the person who chooses progress over perfection.”

If these statements feel fake right now, go one level gentler:

• “I’m practicing being someone who follows through.”
• “I’m learning to respond instead of react.”
• “I can do the next right step.”

Repeat it in the morning—and pair it with one tiny action (even 2 minutes counts). Consistency beats intensity.

And if your inner voice is harsh: try replacing self-criticism with a self-compassionate tone. Self-compassion interventions reliably reduce self-criticism and improve well-being, and they can support motivation without the shame spiral.

What does your inner voice tell you in the morning or on a tough day?

The basics beat the quick fixes.
No matter what I am coaching, one of my rules is to focus on the basics first. I know it is not always what you want to hear, but the lack of progression is more likely to be caused by the absence of a generally healthy diet than the exact timing of your protein or fiber intake. The lack of energy you experience is more likely to be caused by the average of 5 hours of sleep you get than that missed zone 2 cardio session last week and even though watching television in bed helps you relax, it will never beat the no-screen evening walk.
You wouldn't be the first person disappointed in the fact that you probably already know the solution and that it is indeed quite simple, but it requires a real change to actually implement them and changing habits sounds easier than it actually is because the brain loves to stick with what it already knows.

What basics in training or lifestyle could benefit you at the moment?

I am not just a coach. I am your biggest supporter. No matter the pace, no matter the weather, no matter the challenge. When you show up, I will be there. I might not have a sense for fashion, I do know how you can progress to your next level.

When it comes to improving our lives, we often want to do everything at once.
New diet. New training plan. Wake up at 5AM. Journal daily. Healthy diet. 10k steps. Read a chapter a day.

And then… we burn out.

Real change rarely comes from doing more.
It comes from doing what matters — consistently.

Here are 5 small shifts that actually move the needle:

Pick one priority.
Not five. One.
What would make the biggest positive impact on your energy right now? Sleep? Movement? Nutrition? Stress? Make it specific.

Lower the bar.
If your plan feels overwhelming, it’s too big.
Make it so small it almost feels too easy. 10 minutes. One habit. One choice.

Stack your habits.
Habits stick when they have a trigger.
After brushing your teeth → 5 minutes mobility. After lunch → 10-minute walk.

Measure consistency, not intensity.
Success is not “perfect”. Success is showing up again tomorrow.

Protect your priority.
If everything is important, nothing is.
Treat your chosen habit like an appointment with yourself.

You don’t need to become a new person overnight. You need clarity on what matters most right now. Take 1 step.

Start small. Stay consistent.
That’s how lifestyles change.

What is one priority you're choosing for next week?

My goal is to make your life better, healthier and more fun. To get to that point, I will ask you to step out of your comfort zone often. And if I am going to ask that of you, I need to make sure I do too. Challenging myself to become better, educate myself and most importantly, keep growing.

A good, healthy and fun life doesn’t look the same for everyone, but we often struggle with the same challenges to get to the points we actually want to be at. Some moments, we will forget what the comfort zone looked like and just see the struggle we’re in or the growth ahead. And once we passed that point, we relax, get comfortable in the new zone and do it all over again.

What is your next challenge?
