At the school where I teach, it is my students’ last day. But they will always remain dear to me. Their laughter, their innocent faces—yet so clever from within—their love, trust, and even a little fear toward me… all of it means so much.
Throughout this past year, I have been many things for them: a doctor, a lawyer, a coach, a joker, a writer, even like a mother. Maybe that’s why my heart feels so heavy having to say goodbye to them.
They never judged me, nor were they ever angry with me. They used to tell me, “Ma’am, you are very strict.” I would ask, “In what way am I strict?” And they would answer, “In handwriting, in maths, and in discipline.” Smiling, I would say, “If I don’t do that, how will you improve your handwriting? And where will you learn discipline?” After that, they would quietly agree.
May the days ahead be even better for you all. Wherever you go, may you always do well and be happy.
