Just a quick update because I’ve been a bit slack 🫣

I put my brave girl pants on and went in for round three last Monday. I had a rotator cuff revision (with a little pig skin patch screwed on… yep, really 🐷).

Wouldn’t be one of my surgeries without a wee surprise, turns out my bicep tendon had also come off the bone 😰, so that’s now been anchored further down my arm to stop it stretching. Who knew they could do that?! No wonder it’s been so sore.

I’m looking forward to easing back into work and slowly building my hours up to whatever my new “normal” looks like.

Thank you so much for your patience over the last 2 years 😇 I’m really looking forward to hopefully seeing some familiar and old faces back in my chair soon. X

I have a tranquil, calm but luxurious salon at Lake Hood Ashburton, it's just me and a part timer whom we share a lot of laughs🤣!
Frustratingly, I head into a second shoulder surgery at the end of April🥺. Rather than shutting my doors leaving my guests stuck, I'd love to offer the space to a hairdresser who's ready to go from an employee to self-employed. Or maybe your body is talking to you, to pull back from the big hours you are currently doing, this maybe a great fit for you.

This role can begin as a temporary opportunity by stepping into an existing part time clientele, with room to grow your own business at the same time if it feels right😌.
No pressure, no chaos, no salon politics, just good clients, good energy and a supportive place to grow yourself.

This is how we both turned up on our first day back at work for the year🙈😆 braced, booted, and slightly held together… but our vibe is still professional..... ish 😛

As I lie on my back with my legs in the air, a heat pack on my shoulder and an ice pack wrapped around my hand, it’s hard to believe how much life has changed in just 18 months. Not long ago I could run up Mt Peel in under an hour ( no lie). Now, one hour in the garden can leave me flat in so much pain, but perspective has taught me that strength isn’t always about speed or distance.

I’ve had to accept that the version of me I once knew has changed. Not lost but "given". And trust me, I didn’t hand it over quietly. I fought hard to stay that athletic person… but my body said no🥺 .

A shoulder surgery in 2024 went very sideways and has left me needing another. Six months off work, followed by a return of just 6–9 hours a week. Then came what was meant to be a “simple” carpal tunnel release on the opposite hand which resulted in an extremely rare partial severing of my median nerve, and the nerve pain decided to outshine even my shoulder.

Throw in the lower half of my body packing up and some bulging discs hitting a nerve, and this is my daily pain management reality along with some undesirable nerve blockers.

I still love every hour I can spend in my salon, but watching my business slowly unravel as I’ve had to let so many clients go has been heartbreaking.

That said even when doors keep slamming shut, I keep finding new ones to crack open and even try new things like teaching myself to play the guitar is so cool 🤩. My window may be smaller than it ever has what I’m able to do physically, but there is still so much to be grateful for. These injuries have made me meet this incredible lady 🥰.

I know I’m not alone, living with daily pain is relentless and exhausting. But even when our bodies are struggling, there is still so much beauty beyond them, waiting for us to notice, feel, and hold onto.

Still showing up💪🏼. Still moving forward👊🏼. Still choosing joy🥰.

I’m still working in a reduced capacity🫶🏼! I’m only able to take a limited number of bookings🥺, but the quality and care remain the same .🌼

Having one hand that doesn’t work properly doesn’t limit my ability to create stunning work and my passion remains as strong as ever.
This is proof that a little challenge can’t hold back creativity😉. It simply means I dedicate more time and attention to each guest, ensuring every style is crafted with care and passion.

I am allowed to be pi⚡️sed off but don’t take it as I’m feeling sorry for myself as I promise you that isn’t even an option in my head.

As I wasn’t back at work full-time yet, still recovering from shoulder surgery that left me worse for wear, I regrettably decided to undergo carpal tunnel surgery. It’s meant to be a relatively minor procedure, but I knew there was always that 1% chance of things going wrong.

Long story short, after undergoing several tests due to my hand not working as it should post-surgery, and extreme pain being a daily occurrence, I was told exactly what I was dreading: some nerves have been broken .

Moving forward, frustratingly, I’m only able to service a couple of guests a week. Everything takes me longer because I’m having to adapt to a new way of doing something that I’ve done for 22 years. 🤭 If the nerves don’t find their way back to each other in 4-6 months I will need to have nerve grafts so come on universe help me out here 🌸.

While these setbacks have been big blows, I remain positive and still find greatness in the present. Your support and patience are invaluable to me, and I eagerly anticipate returning stronger than ever.

It has been heart wrenching watching my salon disintegrate before my eyes and I am so grateful for Irena helping me try hold onto my dream. 🫶🏼
