Physio isn't only for when you're injured.
Sometimes it's the knee that keeps grumbling on the stairs. The back that gets stiff after a day at work. The shoulder that doesn't move quite as freely as it used to. Or perhaps you're returning to exercise and simply don't feel as strong or confident as you'd like.
Physiotherapy can help with much more than recovering from an acute injury.
At Parnell Physio, we can help you understand what's contributing to ongoing pain or restricted movement, rebuild strength and mobility, manage recurring problems, and feel more confident getting back to the activities you enjoy.
Treatment is tailored to you and may include hands-on therapy, individualised exercises and practical strategies you can use between appointments.
You don't necessarily need to wait until something becomes a bigger problem.
If something has been niggling away or holding you back, we're here to help.

π Getting back into running this spring?
With longer days and warmer weather arriving, it's a great time to get outside and start moving again.
But if your running has taken a bit of a back seat over winter, it's worth giving your body time to adjust. Increasing your distance, pace or frequency too quickly can sometimes lead to those little niggles that make running far less enjoyable.
Calf or Achilles pain, sore knees, tight or uncomfortable hips, and foot or ankle problems can all crop up when your training load changes.
Building up gradually, allowing time for recovery and including some strength work alongside your running can all help your body adapt to the extra demand.
And if a niggle isn't settling or is starting to change the way you run, a physiotherapy assessment can help identify what's contributing and get you moving comfortably again.
Enjoy those spring kilometres! πΏ

Are your knees complaining about stairs?
Knee pain can show up in all sorts of ways β walking up or down stairs, getting out of a chair, kneeling, tackling hills, exercising or simply walking further than usual.
There are many different reasons a knee can become painful, which is why understanding what's contributing to your symptoms is an important part of getting you moving comfortably again.
A physiotherapy assessment can look at your knee movement and strength, as well as what's happening at the hips, ankles and surrounding muscles.
Treatment and rehabilitation can then be tailored to you, with the aim of reducing pain, improving strength and helping you get back to the activities that matter to you.
If knee pain has started changing what you do day to day, it may be time to get it checked.

Could your neck be contributing to your headaches?
Headaches can have many different causes, but for some people, problems involving the neck can be part of the picture.
You might notice headaches alongside neck stiffness or discomfort, reduced movement, tension through the shoulders, or symptoms that seem to build after long periods at a desk or in one position.
At Parnell Physio, we take the time to assess what may be contributing to your headaches rather than focusing only on where you feel the pain.
Depending on what we find, treatment may include hands-on therapy, exercises to improve neck movement and strength, and practical strategies to help you manage contributing factors in everyday life.
If headaches are becoming a regular interruption to your day, a physiotherapy assessment may help determine whether your neck is playing a role.

Shoulder pain can make even the simplest everyday tasks feel difficult.
Reaching into a cupboard, fastening a seatbelt, hanging out the washing or lifting something overhead can all become uncomfortable when your shoulder isn't moving as it should.
Shoulder pain can develop after an injury, but it can also build up gradually over time through repetitive movements, sport, work or everyday activities.
Physiotherapy can help identify what's contributing to your symptoms and provide a personalised treatment plan to improve movement, reduce discomfort and help you return to the activities you enjoy.
If your shoulder has been bothering you for a while, it may be worth having it assessed rather than hoping it will simply settle on its own.
Our experienced team is here to help you move comfortably and confidently again.

Whether you're playing competitively, enjoying a social league, or cheering on your children from the sidelines, netball places high demands on the body.
Quick changes of direction, jumping, landing and fast-paced play can all contribute to injuries such as:
-Ankle sprains
-Knee pain
-Calf and Achilles strains
-Shoulder and finger injuries following awkward catches or falls
If you've picked up a niggle that's affecting your game, don't wait until it becomes something more serious. Early assessment and the right rehabilitation can often help you recover more efficiently and reduce the risk of the problem returning.
We love helping our patients stay active and keep doing the sports they enjoy throughout the season.
