Think your spray tan caused them? Probably not! You may have tinea versicolor - a common superficial yeast overgrowth that can affect how your skin tans.

✨ Healthy skin darkens, while affected areas may not absorb colour evenly, making pale patches much more noticeable.

💡 The good news? It’s treatable. OTC antifungal options may help, but if it’s widespread, recurring or not improving, see your GP or dermatologist.

⚠️ Even once the yeast is gone, lighter patches can take weeks to months to return to their normal colour — this is completely normal.

Part 1: Why you MUST wait to get a spray tan AFTER laser

The Golden Rule: Wait 1 week post-laser before applying any spray tan!

Skin Sensitivity: Laser treatment uses intense heat to target hair follicles, leaving your skin temporarily irritated, sensitive, and dry.

Uneven & Blotchy Results: Applying spray tan or self-tanner on freshly lasered, micro-irritated skin leads to uneven absorption!

Clogged Pores & Irritation: Tanning formulas can trap heat in open pores, causing clogged pores, breakouts, or contact dermatitis.

Part 2: Why you NEVER get a spray tan BEFORE laser

How Lasers Work: Laser hair removal targets melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle.

Risk of Burns & Blisters: Fake tan adds artificial pigment to the top layer of your skin. The laser can’t tell the difference between your hair and the spray tan, meaning it will absorb into your skin instead—causing severe burns, blistering, or hyperpigmentation.

Ineffective Treatments: If the technician sees fake tan on your skin, they will have to turn down the energy settings for safety, making the treatment way less effective (or reschedule you altogether!).

Before Laser: Scrub off ALL fake tan completely at least 2 weeks prior.

After Laser: Wait 7days (until skin is 100% calm and healed) before spraying!
