Mai Day Spa
A Ponsonby day spa with a Thai accent. For men, women, everyone.
We’re delighted to be able to welcome all our customers back, irrespective of your vax status, with the retirement of My Vaccine Pass requirements from 5 April.
They’ve served us well - not a single case among our staff, nor passed on among our customers - but we’re all really glad it’s over. Vaccination might save your life but it won’t stop you getting Omicron - we rely on other things for that. Like HEPA filtration, CO2 monitoring, N95 masking and RATs.
And while case numbers are where they are, we’re still asking our customers to wear masks during treatment - Omicron’s not going away anytime soon. Some of you we know are immune-compromised, and the measures in place here help keep everyone safe.
So thank you for your understanding and for abiding by these precautions while we’ve had to. We’ve all made it through, thanks to you and the crew. Better times ahead!
Due to the widespread prevalence of Omicron in our community we’re now asking all our customers to arrive in shared areas fully masked, and to wear masks during treatment.
We realise that many are now philosophical, even cavalier, about the prospect of catching COVID - but we have a duty to protect our staff and customers from any cross-infection, and our crew cannot Zoom in from home. If any go down, we all go down, for 10 days at least. We need to protect you, protect ourselves, and protect our business.
You’ll see in our News posts the steps we’re taking to ensure your treatment here is as safe as we can make it. We’ve installed HEPA filters everywhere, and are monitoring CO2 levels as a proxy for exhaled vapour. Masks multiply our levels of safety.
We’re watching case numbers daily, testing our staff, and hope that soon we’ll be able to relax this edict. Meanwhile, we’re offering disposable masks that may be more comfortable than the mask you arrive with - please ask us if you’d like one. We’ll get through this soon!
The team at Mai Day Spa wish all our loyal friends and customers (is there a difference?) a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You've given us amazing support during a strange year and we've enjoyed treating you back when we could. Hopefully we've put the outbreak of Lockdown Leg and Zoom Neck behind us. 2021 has had its challenges, and 2022 lurks... or in Thailand, the year 2565 on the Buddhist calendar, starting on 1 January but celebrated at Songkran on 13 April. They've got 543 years of cultural tradition on us!
We hope the year ahead is kind to you all, and in a year's time we can again greet the future with confidence and joy.
Happy Holidays from us all!
Due to high seasonal demand, Mai Day Spa will close for just two days over the holiday period - Christmas Day and New Years Day. So if you're lucky enough to get one of our vouchers for Christmas, you can redeem it almost any time over summer!
Have a great start to the festive season.

Our filters are here!!
— Mai Day Spa We're doubling down on fresh air! We know people are often anxious about what happens to the air during a long spa session. You don't want everyone sharing the same air, especially in these apprehensive times. So to keep everyone safe and relaxed, we've just installed not one, but two HEPA filter
Tonight we have had a truly bizarre exchange with a group of incensed vaccine activists objecting to the 22 October post below about My Vaccine Pass, that we embrace to keep our staff and customers safe. They've gone to the extent of posting fake reviews in an attempt to discredit our business. These comments are unhelpful to everyone, and are no longer publicly visible.
We acknowledge our part in inflaming these sentiments, in our reply to a former customer who took issue with our mailout, and of course apologise for any distress caused. We have no interest in excluding anyone, and look forward to being able to welcome everyone back irrespective of their vaccination status. We acknowledge these are personal choices forced upon people by circumstance and remain committed to a safe and inclusive business, for all our customers and staff.
It has always been our position that we would do whatever we must to keep the risk of exposure to Covid as low as it can possibly be in a close contact environment, and our customers can continue to trust that we will not be pressured out of complying with New Zealand's Red level entry requirements.
The Mai Day Spa team.

Today the government announced the "traffic light" COVID-19 Protection Framework that allows close contact businesses observing safe protocols to reopen as soon as Auckland hits a 90% full vaccination rate across each of its three DHB regions.
This closely aligns with our vaccination policy we first announced in September and updated a few days ago.
Our first priority will always be the safety and comfort of our customers and crew. When we reopen, Mai Day Spa will make use of the Vaccination Certificate framework that allows us to keep providing the service you know and love, with the maximum possible safety in the new environment we face. COVID may be out there, but we don't want it in here, and we're doing our absolute best to achieve that.
So if you haven't had your second jab yet (or your first!) now's the time.
Ka mihi atu.

Mai Day Spa wishes to stand behind our colleagues in the industry grappling with the risk of inadvertently treating a customer who has Covid, and putting others at risk. This is a distressing situation for all, and we hope it never happens to us.
Since the pandemic began we have fortified our rigorous cleaning protocols - as usual, all linen is washed after each treatment, and 70% isopropyl alcohol is always used after every session to disinfect the area around the "face hole" that Wade describes. Air in our treatment rooms is exchanged for 10 minutes before the next customer enters, and our staff wear masks throughout our interactions. Masks are available for anyone who wishes to wear one. We make safety a priority, as we're sure others do.
Under our privacy terms, we may share client info with health officials if required, and will not hesitate to do so if we are notified of someone who, knowingly or not, has visited us and later returned a positive test. Of course we do not accept visits from people required to isolate.
This will be with us for some time. So please, take care, stay safe and make sure you sign in using the MoH Covid Tracer app!
