The Gurl Barber

Everybody has a story ... weather you know it or not, it's a privilege.

I've been on this grind for nearly 7 years.
6 months out of training, covid hit.
I refused the jab, lost my job (like many) and went out on my own, without much of an idea or professional development plan.
Then life slapped me around for a while all while trying to keep at it.
But now here, in Ōtautahi, my fresh start, this is where you will see me shine.

This industry can be a soul sucker.... But I kept my grind on,.
Because of all the things i have done in my 45 years of living (which has been ALOT) Being a Barber has been a passion know one could have explained to me !!!

I am very pleased to inform, who ever is following me and wants to know.
Cutz by big red has reached out to me Gurl Barber to offer professional development sesh for this friday 5th June.
Clients are booked !!! And big red himself will be here from 9am.

To any training barber that may be interested in stopping by to watch, learn ask questions or just want to pop in for a nosy or to say hi to red or myself PLEASE DM ME for any info.
It would be awesome to meet anyone new to the industry or looking at getting into it.

My little whanau and I are making the move down to the chilly south island.
Our final days here in the mighty waikato are yet to be confirmed, but will keep you all posted.
I can tell you however it will be early to mid February.

I can not thank you all enough for sticking with me through out my journey in barbering.
There aren't enough words that express just how greaful I am off you all.
Especially my day oners!!!

I hope everyone of you all have had an wonderful amazing summer holiday and are still all safe and well together.

From this..... To that 🥰

Kia ora whanau, it's been a few minutes since I last posted. This social media life gets me anxious but here we go....

When I first went into "lockdown mode, and starting my barbering journey in my garage, I never thought much about being an advocate for anything, or a safe space for someone to have something as simple as a haircut.
Until of corse I was in it.
These past couple of years have been rough to say the least, and i let myself fall into a space of high anxieties, self doubt, self sabotage 🤦🏾‍♀️ you name it, I was in the thick of it.
All the stuff, was happening.
Yesterday comes and I get a phone call. From a new client..... Griff
The phone ringing MAKES ME ANXIOUS even more so when it's a number I don't no.
So on my brave un**es go and I answer.....
It's Griff, softly spoken, and clearly (to me) shaking like a leaf 🫶🏾
Long story short, I thought they were calling for a job 🤦🏾‍♀️ but once the nerves settled and we both got our giggling under control, they were able to ask the aged ol question..... can I get a cut please 😍 my heart exploded !!!
I felt every single ounce of courage it took to ask that question, and of course ya gurl said yeah 🫠
My jam here today whanua is to remind us all .....
Some of us climb mountains within ourselfs to be courageous for even the simplest of things (like a haircut)
And usually, we do it alone.
These people don't usually like to ask for a buddy to join them, or like to show the need for support on there journey,
So when you are privileged enough to be asked if youd like to join them..... do it !!!!
