Positive aspiration sign in filler!

Every injector seeing this just puckered a little...

See that red in the tip of the syringe? Thats blood. This is known as a positive aspiration sign in dermal filler treatments and is a signal we could be inside a blood vessel.

This particular positive was down on the bone in the lateral cheek which according to protocol should be "free of blood vessels".

However every face is unique, anatomy has variants, and "safe zones" cannot be taken for granted. This patient had a blood vessel in what is normally an avascular zone, and thank goodness we aspirated before injecting the supposedly "safe" zone. This could have resulted in a vascular occlusion had the injection been placed. Which would have needed emergency dissolving to return blood flow.

So how do we handle this? Simple. We dont panic. We remove the needle from the injection site. Hold pressure to minimize any bruising, and reassess our placement. In this case on assessment we decided to use a cannula to place the filler in a different layer of the tissue. Allowing for a beautiful result and a happy client with great perfusion post treatment.

My beautiful patient was bothered by the laxity under her eyes, after careful assessment. I have always reccomended booking in advance as my lists tend to book out. However especially now due to a recent surge in new clients as well as the start of laser season (I literally spent all Friday doing purely BBL, nano, and micro laser peels 🤩) we are finding that patients are having to book well in advance to get times that suit their schedule.

To help you fit in your treatments we have opened wait lists for our booking system. If you have a preferred time you can now select the waitlist and if someone reschedules I will contact you first to offer you the slot. I would reccomend making a booking for a later date that you can make as well so you have both bases covered!

Also a note to my pre booked clients, I am super flexible with rescheduling your appointments. But the earlier I know the better so I can offer the slot to another person so please 🙏, call, text, or email as soon as you know you need to move your appointment.

This Tuesday was an opportunity to head to Auckland for a sciton clinical workshop for advanced lasers training. As laser providers we should never stop learning, New protocols, different wavelengths, case study findings, they all add to our knowledge and skill.

The team at Sciton do an amazing job of keeping our education fresh and up to date. Discussing complex skin conditions, and personalized treatment plans for each. Another reason im so proud to have their devices!

Im now back in Christchurch. Ramping up for laser season now that its officially autumn and we begin taking laser bookings again. Bookings are already filling up FAST and I'm excited to keep bringing you all rejuvenated, glowing skin, busting sun damage and irritated skin one pulse at a time.
