Many people ask us what the name Shambhala means.

In ancient traditions, Shambhala is known as a place of peace, harmony, wisdom, and transformation. While often described as a hidden kingdom, many believe it represents something even deeper — a sense of inner calm and wellbeing.

When I chose the name Shambhala Hair Design, I wanted to create more than just a hair salon.

A space where you can pause.
A place to feel cared for.
A moment to breathe.
A sanctuary where beauty and wellbeing come together.

Every colour, cut, treatment, and conversation is offered with this intention.

After spending several years hairdressing in Australia, Emily has recently returned home to New Zealand and brings with her a wealth of experience, creativity, and a genuine love of helping people feel their best.

Emily has a beautiful, calm nature and is passionate about creating hair that feels effortless, wearable, and uniquely you. Whether you’re looking for a fresh new colour, beautiful foils, a precision cut, or simply some time out to relax and be looked after, Emily would love to meet you.

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing a Face Up™ treatment with the beautiful Isabella and honestly… it was incredible.

So much more than a facial massage, it felt deeply relaxing, rejuvenating and restorative for both body and mind. I walked away feeling lighter, calmer and glowing.

We are so lucky to have Isabella and her beautiful beauty space right next door to Shambhala in the main building. She has the most calming presence and truly magical hands.
