✨ SIX MONTHS OF HANNAH ✨

Has it really only been six months?!!!
It feels like Hannah has always been part of our family.

She has brought so much talent to our little haven and we feel incredibly lucky to have her.

The thing about Hannah is… she’s amazing at everything! Colour, cutting, styling…you name it.

But if there’s one area that leaves us completely blown away, it’s her bridal hair.

Watching her transform her bride’s vision into the most beautiful, timeless hairstyle is truly special. Her creativity, attention to detail and ability to make every bride feel calm, confident and beautiful is a gift, and we are in constant AWE!

Three things you might not know about Hannah…

🇫🇷 She once represented New Zealand in Paris, competing live on stage in an international cutting competition against stylists from 12 countries around the world.

☕ If you’ve only seen Hannah with one coffee… don’t talk to her yet. She runs on a minimum of two.

✈️ As a true Libra, she’s all about balance, and she’s not completely happy unless the next holiday is booked and there’s a countdown to go somewhere exciting.

Thanks for an amazing first six months, Hannah!

Love,

TEAM KIN 🦋🌱❤️

2026. ✨✨✨

The summit I once dreamed of reaching is made all the more meaningful by the team that stands beside me at KIN.

Many years ago, I told a special friend that a big dream of mine was to build a salon from the ground up.

She called it my “pinnacle salon”…
The ultimate expression of what I hoped to create one day.

Recently, I came across a quote from Oprah about how mountains are a powerful metaphor for life.

“When you’re looking up at the mountain and it looks like you have so far to go, it feels like every step is a burden. So I now turn around and look back at how far I’ve come. And when you look back at how far you’ve come, it gives you so much more energy and power to keep going.”

This inspired me to share my business journey with you through a few photo slides, thank you for following. ❤️

2025: Beck gets her own photo slide for this year.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in business is to build a team based on character and values alignment.

Beck has been monumental in helping me attract others like us, cut from the same cloth.

2024: Dream it, Believe it, Build it.

A huge thanks to so many amazing people who helped bring KIN to life. Mostly, hubby.

2023: The closing of one chapter is often the opening of a greater story.

I grew a lot over 7 years at my last location.

I was ready to rebrand the business in a way that reflected what had become the heart of my career, choosing a name that simply and honestly described what I value most…

Connection and Community.

I love how a salon can bring people together where we all feel like kin. ❤️

2022: I fractured both my wrist and elbow when hubby thought I was a better MTB rider than what I actually was.

However… “Sometimes life’s greatest detours become its greatest opportunities.”

I was forced off the tools and into a phase of rest. What initially felt like a setback became a gift of perspective and to think, dream, and begin planning the project that would eventually become Kin.

2021: A key word for me during this year was “PIVOT.”

This term resonated strongly not only in the business landscape post COVID but also in my personal life.

March that year, I shared a stunning Autumnal photo from Halswell Quarry with the quote:

“I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

- Robert Frost

An introspective share because I believe that finding happiness and purpose in both home and work, creates a balance that allows us to thrive as a wholeheartedly fulfilled person.

P.S We were named “Runner Up” this year for CHCH’S Best Hairdresser.

The winner was Surreal Hairdressing, led by one of my favourite boss’s Michelle Marsh. So very well deserved.

2019 & 2020: CHRISTCHURCH’S BEST HAIRDRESSER.
Thank you Avenues Magazine for the People’s Choice Vote.

2019 was the year of stretch marks that will never fade, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.

Owning a business while having babies created a constant tension, as though I was being pulled in two directions and never quite able to give either 100 percent of myself.

If there was a year that was the hardest…It was this one.

2017 & 2018 BEST SALON DESIGN - 1 of 5 NZ finalists for the Kitomba Awards (former location).

This was such a confidence boost for my first 2 years as a Salon Owner.

After nine years in Melbourne, I packed up the life I had built and returned home to Christchurch with a one-year-old.

I was offered the chance to take over the lease of an existing salon. At the time, I had no idea just how much hard work would come with it, but I knew it was an opportunity I was ready for.

Taking over the space gave me the chance to refit, and rebrand it to reflect my own vision and style.

Although I didn’t fully know what I was getting myself into, I chose to take a leap of faith, trusting that the challenges would help me grow both personally and professionally.

I’m not entirely sure where the dream of business ownership first came from, perhaps it was inevitable, having grown up with parents who ran their own small business.

What I did know was that I wanted to create something meaningful and make my family proud.

When I put my family surname on the door, it felt like more than just a business name; it was a tribute to my heritage and a promise to carry that legacy forward through hard work, determination, and heart. ❤️
