One of my old clients popped into the shop for a quick visit today. I hadn’t seen him in a while, and honestly… I hardly recognised the guy. 😂

I last saw him sometime last year, but I hadn’t seen him since he turned 18. And man… the change was wild.

Today he’s 18, absolutely towering over me, finished school and studying cheffing at WITT — ready to head out into the world and make his own way.

And it genuinely blew my mind.

I’ve been cutting hair for a long time now, so I’ve watched this happen more times than I can count. Kids who sit in my chair for years slowly grow up, finish school, start careers, head off on their own adventures and become the adults they were always going to be.

And somehow, it never gets old.

That’s one of the things I love most about being a barber. You get these little windows into people’s lives. You meet them as kids, watch them grow, hear about their wins, their struggles, their plans — and every now and then, they walk back through the door and remind you just how much time has passed.

It’s honestly a privilege.

We didn’t get much time to catch up today, but we’ve already promised to properly debrief next time — especially on all the anime wins we’ve had this year. 😂🤝

From school days to stepping out into the world… it’s pretty bloody cool watching the next generation level up.

Keep going, bro. You’ve got a whole arc ahead of you. 🫡🔥

Real speak — teenagers can be tough nuts to crack sometimes 😂

Between the one-word answers, the quiet spells and the occasional “yep… nah… cool” conversation, getting them to open up can be a challenge.

But honestly, it’s a challenge I don’t shy away from. I actually love teaching these kids the lost art of conversation — usually by giving them a hard time until they finally give me something to work with 🤣

I’m sure the parents secretly appreciate it… or at least I like to think they do 😂

Then you get kids like Ben and Toby, where the conversation just flows naturally. Two awesome young fellas, and always a pleasure having them in the chair.

The haircut is only half the experience around here. 🤝
