Paws Rewind

Meet Winston,
He is a 1 year old miniature dachshund who I have been walking since February.

Winston’s mum contacted me to help with his on lead walking as he constantly pulled on lead and he was extremely vocal towards other dogs and people.
In typical dachshund fashion, his barking was quite extreme when he would see other dogs and people.

Being so small, fluffy and absolutely adorable he would often draw attention from people wanting to give him pats! But to little Winston people reaching down to give him any attention became super scary! And so he developed a lot of stranger danger and fear of new people (including me).

I’ve been working with Winston to build his confidence and also build trust in our relationship. This meant learning that I am not scary, but also that I would have his back and not let strangers approach him.

We also have worked on his association with other dogs - he has been learning to be around other dogs without the pressure to interact and that he can be calm in their presence.
Learning from other dogs through the calm pack walks has done wonders for his confidence and his calmness when out walking.

Winston has come such a long way in a short time! From constant pulling on lead and barking at dogs to walking in a pack of five and walking nicely on lead. We are also working on this with his mum too as he tends to be a bit naughty for her!

Pack walking with other dogs has proven to be exactly what Winston needs to grow in confidence and learn that the big wide world isn’t always scary!

One guess for the most common comment…..

It makes me wonder why people feel the need to make a comment, I’m not sure what other business (if any) or person just doing their job gets commented on by strangers on the street.
But it’s a running joke between myself and a few of the other dog walkers around - I’ve started writing a list down each time someone says something. It’s very amusing to compare the comments we get daily.

Meet Oreo,
I have been walking her twice a week since January.
Oreos parents wanted someone to take her out for walks as they were both busy with work and she was at home for long periods.
She also showed signs of “stranger danger” so getting her out and about exposed to different people and surroundings to help her overcome this was important.

Oreo was also a little dog reactive when her parents were around so they wanted to get her socialising with other dogs in a manner that was controlled and structured so she could learn to be around other dogs without needing to get protective.

Oreo is a young girl who is full of energy! But once I broke through that protective barrier I found out just what a big softie sweetheart she really is!

She quickly went from being dog reactive to being able to walk alongside 4 other dogs in a pack comfortably.
Getting to know her and that she just wants some space when being around new people is why I spend time getting to know dogs one on one. And why it is so important not to skip this step when introducing new dogs to a group.

I look forward to continuing to work with Oreo and getting to know her little quirks and personality. So proud of how far she has come in such a short time working with me 🥰

What’s the worst part of my job?
It’s that you build a deep connection with each and every dog that you have the privilege of spending your days with, and then one day, they are no longer there.

Today the world lost another one of its most precious souls, Nikau.

There was something about her that just melted my heart. A similarity to my senior girl maybe, but something about senior dogs just hits different. 15 amazing years she spent with the most loving family I know.

She was one of my very first massage and walking dogs. The sweetest girl. No longer having you around is going to be strange. From seeing you every Tuesday for your little old lady sniff walk and every second Wednesday for your fortnightly massage - to nothing. You will leave a huge space in my heart xx

Rest in love my sweet girl. I will forever cherish our time together. Thank you for being a part of my journey ❤️

Life can be a bit tough at the moment and sometimes heavy. But seeing these cute faces every day makes things seem a bit brighter! So I wanted to share with you all, what makes my day a bit better ❤️

Meet Winter, not to be confused with Apa or Momo.
I have been walking Winter since July 2025.

Winter has epilepsy so I keep a close eye on her as some days she’s just a little bit lethargic but when she is feeling good it’s so lovely to see her personality shine through!

Winter has been a great addition to Paws Rewind walks and she has got on with every dog I have introduced her to. She is perfect on lead and is such a cruisey girl. She is the perfect dog to introduce new dogs to as she is not bothered about them at all and doesn’t try and get in their space, she’s just happy to go for her walk.

I enjoy my walks with Winter and continuing to see her personality shine through!
