Winter can be the season that scares nail techs⦠or the season that builds them.
When bookings slow down, itās easy to panic. Empty spaces in the diary are loud. (I know, because Iāve felt it too.)
However, some of the biggest growth in my career came from when I stopped only focusing on filling appointments and started focusing on levelling up.
A slow season can be used to sharpen your skills, improve your systems, build confidence, refine your work, and come back stronger than before.
So for May, Iām doing something cray-cray:

Nobody learns to hold a brush by watching someone else hold one (not efficiently anyway)
The first time you pick up a nail file, your hand doesnāt know what pressure means yet. You have to š§š¦š¦š the resistance. You have to mess up the bead, rebuild it, mess it up again - until something clicks and your fingers just š¬šÆš°šø.
Thatās not something a video can teach you. Thatās muscle memory. Thatās skill development. š
If youāre ready to start doing, my home-based salon is available to you. Buy a session at tappytips.co.nz and come spend a few hours with me, where I can correct and guide you - so you can leave the wrong techniques behind and start repeating the š³šŖšØš©šµ ones āØ

Iām allowed to say this because I did the same thing for the first 7 years of my āentrepreneurial careerā š„²šāāļø
I used to think the answer was always just... more. More clients, more hours, more hustle.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise I was scaling a problem, not solving one.
So I sat with the math and oh my - it was eye-opening. It was also one of the best things I couldāve done for my nail business because all of my problems made sense after that.
If your diary is full and it still doesnāt feel like enough, swipe through this. The maths is simple. š

If you donāt feel confident charging more yet, thatās your sign to improve - not discount š
āāļøāØ
Deep down, you may feel your work isnāt consistent yet.āØThat your prep could be cleaner,
or your shaping depends on the day,āØor your retention is a little⦠unpredictable.
And thatās not a bad thing.āØThatās direction!āØ
Instead of lowering your prices to match your current level,āØraise your standard to match the price you šøš¢šÆšµ to charge. š
That looks like:
ā Investing time into learning, not just postingāØā Practicing until you fully understand the steps youāre takingāØā Fixing lifting issues instead of hoping clients donāt noticeāØā Refining your shaping so itās recognisable, not randomāØ
Confidence in pricing comes from proof, not hype.
If youāre hesitating to charge more, listen to that.āØThen go build the skill set that aligns with where you want to be š
