Surgery and tissue trauma can temporarily disrupt lymphatic vessels. When fluid enters the tissue faster than it can be removed oedema develops.
Swelling is a normal part of the healing process, but excessive or persistent swelling may contribute to longer recovery time, restricted range of movement, fibrosis, pain and discomfort.

MLD can be indicated in the early stages of recovery. Working proximal to the injury or surgical site.
Once the skin is fully healed and sealed, incorporating gentle scar therapy techniques to support tissue remodelling and symptomatic scars can help improve tissue health and mobility, altered sensation, reduce pain and tensile load on your connective tissue.
