Weston gave one of his friends a burst fade in the shop.

Experienced barbers will know this is a technical haircut that requires a measure of control and patience to learn, let alone master. This young man continues to impress.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of taking Weston through a head shave and beard trim on his dad.

To say we are impressed with this young man is an understatement, he possesses every aspect required to excel in this industry.

You're doing great Weston! Keep up the good work!

Here's our EIT work experience student Samone giving one of our regulars a haircut and shave, she did fantastic with this service and finished it off with a beautiful taper fade.

Meet Jo — Owner | Barber

Jo began her career in the hair industry at just 16, building strong foundations under mentors who recognised her potential and shaped her early journey.

After taking time away to raise her children, she returned to the industry and expanded into barbering, rebuilding her career through discipline, consistency, and a commitment to high standards.

Three years ago, Jo became the owner of Maxim Barbers and continues to work on the floor while leading the vision of the shop, including the creation of our new Hastings space.

Jo specialises in classic barbering, precision scissor work, and timeless styles focused on balance, structure, and detail. Her approach is grounded in authenticity, integrity, and respect for the craft.

Outside the shop, she enjoys the calm of beach life with her dogs and is developing a luxury grooming and skincare range inspired by New Zealand’s native botanicals, continuing a family legacy rooted in nature and refinement.

So Weston did his very first zero fade on Elliott, under oral Instruction, and absolutely smashed it out of the park!

So proud of you Weston!

We’re stoked to welcome Weston to the shop as part of the Gateway Programme.

Gateway gives high school students the chance to step into a real workplace and experience a trade firsthand, and Weston will be joining us every Thursday for the next 10 weeks to learn what barbering is all about.

Everyone starts somewhere, and we’re proud to help support the next generation coming through the industry.

On ANZAC Day, we close our doors to honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of those who served, and those who never came home.

No fades. No conversations. Just remembrance.

We will be closed Saturday 25 April as we take a moment to reflect, remember, and give thanks.
