Technique matters. Of course it does. But if your client’s nervous system doesn’t feel safe, the technique won’t land the way it should. Because here’s the thing: your body tells me everything. Even when you think you’re hiding it. You can tell me you’re fine. You’re not stressed. You slept great last night. But your nervous system? It doesn’t lie. Your breath tells me if you’re still in stress mode or if you’ve dropped into rest. Your jaw tells me if you’re holding tension you don’t realise you’re carrying. Your hands tell me if you’re bracing or surrendering. I’m tracking both. The technique AND your nervous system. Because one supports the other. I’m watching for the exact moment you shift from sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic (rest and digest). That’s when the facial actually works. That’s when your body can receive what I’m giving it. Because your skin doesn’t glow from products alone. It glows when your body feels safe enough to let the inflammation go. That’s why I never leave the room. That’s why I move slowly. That’s why I don’t talk unless you do. That’s why the lighting is soft and the temperature is warm. Every single choice I make in that treatment room is designed to send your nervous system one message: you’re safe here. And when your body finally believes it? That’s when the technique can do its job properly. The glow is the side effect. The regulation is the work. To therapists: Start paying attention to these signals alongside your technique. Your client’s nervous system is talking to you the entire treatment. Learn to listen. To clients: This is what’s happening during your facial that you don’t consciously notice. But your body does. And that’s why you leave feeling different. Save this if you’re a therapist who wants to understand what to track beyond technique.
