Furrytails is now closed to new intakes for the foreseeable future.

From the very beginning, our mission has been to make a difference for the cats who need it most - especially those other rescues may not be able to take. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but the reality is that our current model is no longer sustainable. With fewer adoptions, cats - especially shy, older teenagers - are staying too long, affecting their overall wellbeing.

Rising costs, even with our amazing community support, mean we need to pause and take this time to assess the future of Furrytails. We know times are tough and adopting is a big decision, and we respect that.

Behind every cat are countless hours from our carers, and a real emotional toll - especially when kittens don’t survive. Loss is something our small team carries quietly, but it is deeply felt.

The kitten in the photo is one example, currently battling ringworm and chronic diarrhoea, with weekly medicated baths as part of his treatment.

For now, our focus is on caring for the cats and kittens we have and finding them the homes they deserve.

A shout out to the volunteers at St Vincent de Paul. Out there making life alittle bit easier for those doing it abit tough. If you can, please donate some kai for their food bank. They're ability to keep this service available relies on people like us. They've helped me in the past and still check up on us every year to make sure we're okay.

This has always happened. People think they can learn from YouTube. The practical part looks easy, but the customer doesn't see the small tips and tricks an industry qualified technician or therapist has, to keep them safe and deal with any issues. Even something as small as wax pot placement can influence the clients experience while hygiene and work ethic are drummed into us at course. Between every client there's laundry & sterilizing happening with clean tools ready for the next customer & a complete room reset at the end of the day. If you're tech or therapist is in training, that should be communicated to you & there needs to supervision by a qualified tech/therapist. And if there's no industry qualifications on the wall, then leave.
