This was my skin as a teenager.

I personally never went on Accutane, but I know firsthand how much acne can affect your confidence. It can feel like so much more than “just bad skin”, and it’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about helping people understand and manage their skin today.

For some teenagers struggling with persistent or severe acne, isotretinoin (commonly known as Accutane) may become part of the conversation with their doctor or dermatologist.

Isotretinoin is a prescription form of Vitamin A that significantly reduces oil production and helps prevent blocked pores. It can be incredibly effective for the right person, but it’s a powerful medication that requires medical supervision.

One of the most common effects is dry, sensitive and reactive skin, so supporting the skin barrier becomes especially important.

While taking isotretinoin, skincare generally needs to focus on:

There are many different types and causes of acne, and not everyone struggling with breakouts will require prescription isotretinoin.

Accutane isn’t the only pathway for acne. Every skin is different, and depending on the individual, the right approach may involve professional skincare, appropriate homecare, LED, other professional treatments and/or medical support.

“I’ve tried every moisturiser, but my skin is still dry.” 🤍

This is one of the most common things I hear from clients, and the answer usually isn’t to buy an even richer moisturiser.

Here’s why…

Your skin has a protective barrier that acts like a shield. One of its main jobs is to keep moisture in and irritants out.

When that barrier becomes compromised, your skin loses water more quickly than it should. This is called transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Today we officially went unconditional on our very first home! 🏡

This also means an exciting new chapter for Classique Skin & Beauty. Over the coming months, the clinic will be moving to our new property, and I can’t wait to welcome you into the new space.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little MIA lately, this is why! Between buying our first home, all the paperwork, packing, and preparing for the move, life has been a little hectic. I’ll probably continue to be a bit quiet over the next month or so while everything comes together, but I promise it’ll all be worth it.
