A week-long noho marae at the prestigious Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, rated the world's best Indigenous university.
It's ethics proposal time, along with seminars from our leading Professors and Doctors.
I'm so grateful for the beautiful space to rest, kai straight from garden to table, and gorgeous humans who are the best in their field. Such a dream come true.

Bringing the Ngahere indoors - Raakau Waananga... in the taiao was presented by Tame Malcom and Te Atatū Peninsula Community Hub.
Early Sunday, but worth the mission with many in attendance.
Tame has been a park ranger and worked for DOC, so if you get lost in the bush, he is the guy who would find you and get you out!
I would like to drop my 10-year-old boy off with him for the school holidays to go bush and learn more about the ngāhere.

The month of Matariki is fast becoming the busiest on the social calendar! 😆 It definitely gets you out on those early winter mornings & evenings. And 5am starts become the norm 🥶
At our boys' Matariki Day celebrations, we got to see Matariki through the powerful telescopes, and eat fresh kai from the school's harvest.
Thanks to Daz for the opening karakia; when I explained it was also PJ day, he refused to do it in his jimmy-jams! 😆 🤣

The tikanga for this situation had to be discussed by the kaumātua, as we were bringing his remains back in a small box. It was decided that his adult son would stand behind me as kaikaranga, and before the women and children. Has anyone else had to deal with this situation? I have termed it International Marae Issues, now that our whānau are returning home from overseas, cremated.
It is with gratitude and gratefulness that we were warmly welcomed onto Naumai Marae over the weekend to return our childhood brother Jamie Harris home to his whānau.
Never did I think I would have to karanga you home, my friend.
So much respect to his son Samuel and mother Kat for bringing Jamie from London to Finland and home to Aotearoa.
To the Harris whānau from Hokianga, thank you. We had a wonderful stay: the mean kai, great sleep, good showers and more kai!
Amongst all the research proposals, I have joined a Mahi-toi class to get myself out of my logical thinking.
I'm a creative & I seek out kaupapa Māori art spaces for a reprieve.
Good people, always a mean kai, and I get to do a free Zumba class next door prior! 😆
My favourite so far is bleaching T-shirts. I'm very proud of my efforts and sewed on longer black PVC arms to finish it off ❤️

I am incredibly humbled and grateful to share that I have been awarded the 2026 Te Pitomata Clinical Postgraduate Scholarship from Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora!
This grant is far more than financial support. To me, it represents recognition that mātauranga Māori, Tikanga Rongoā-led healing, and kaupapa Māori research have an important place in the future of health and well-being in Aotearoa.
As a Rongoā Māori practitioner heading into year three of my PhD at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, I explore ritual safety, wairua, and Indigenous healing practices.
My hope is that this work helps create greater understanding of culturally grounded approaches to well-being while contributing to safer, more holistic spaces for our whānau and communities.
For many years, I've worked across very different worlds—from the hair and makeup industry to Indigenous well-being—and choosing to undertake a doctorate was my way of backing the work I believe in.
This award gives me confidence that the journey is worthwhile and that these conversations belong within our health system.

I love me some arts & crafts! Creativity is always my happy place.
With all my PhD essays drafted and submitted, I had some very rare me time.
Candle making is one way I channel mauri-ora into my work tools and a great way to recycle the leftover pieces.
You can use a pan on the heat to do the job. However, when this wee machine came out, I had to have one. It makes the job a lot easier.
You can add colours and flowers to get the magic flowing.
