Month 1 - exciting & terrifying in equal measure!
Month 2 - the quiet week hits & you question everything.
Month 3 - something clicks & you start to find your rhythm.
Months 4 to 6 - you start to see what this can actually become.
Nobody maps this out for you before you start.
If this sounds familiar follow along I’m sharing the honest authentic versions of being a self employed hairdresser 🩷
There was a point where I genuinely believed that other hairdressers were just better than me. More natural at it.
Confidence behind the chair is built not found.
Here is how I built mine & what shifted when I did.
I kept learning, I put myself out there, learning from every client, continuing to educate myself, making mistakes & allowing myself to grow.
And most importantly, I stopped comparing my journey to everyone else's.
I realised I didn't need to know everything to be a good hairdresser.
I'm so glad I didn't let imposter syndrome convince me that I wasn't good enough hairdresser.✌️
Incredible education day with the very talented hairstylist Sean Dollan he's an air touch technique master!
And his flawless ex*****on of his root melt, toner & styling!
I took so much away from today can't wait to use this technique in salon.

Rebook appointments are different from new client appointments.
She already trusts you. She already knows what she wants.
But there is one thing I always ask at the start:
“How has your hair been since I saw you last?”
It gives you the opportunity to find out what she loved, what she didn’t, what’s changed & what might need tweaking this time.
It takes seconds, but it can completely change the client experience.
Follow me for more simple client experience tips that can help you create loyal, returning clients to your salon chair.✌️

It’s a training problem!
Let me fill in the gaps.
Follow me for the things hair school didn’t teach you from the business side of hairdressing to client experience, pricing, boundaries & everything in between.🌸

FREELANCE HAIRSTYLISTS!
We talk about being fully booked, raising our prices & having a successful hairdressing business.
But we don’t talk enough about what we actually take home!
Because turnover ISN'T INCOME
As a self-employed hairdresser, your rent, products, tax & business expenses all add up.
You can be fully booked & still be undercharging.
I wish someone had taught me more about hairdresser pricing, salon profitability & the business side of hairdressing when I started.
So that’s what I’ll be talking about here — alongside client experience, boundaries & avoiding burnout.
If you’re a freelane hairstylist wanting more than just a fully booked diary, follow along. ☀️

There’s so much more to running a successful hair business than being good at hair.
It’s the experience you create, how you price yourself, the boundaries you set, the systems you have in place & all those little details that make your business feel professional.
I’ve learnt so much of this along the way - & I wish someone had taught me more of it sooner.
If you’re a hairdresser building a business you’re proud of, follow along. ☀️
